Nikki Warner was born in Phoenix, Arizona and has been singing for as far back as she can remember, “I used to dance and sing around the house putting shows on constantly, making sure everyone was watching. I can remember listening to Etta James, Billie Holiday, Bob Dylan and The Beatles and just falling in love. My major obsession, though, was 'The Sound Of Music'.”
Warner entered talent shows and performed wherever she could from a young age. As she got older her love for music grew beyond appreciation, she wanted to pursue a career. “My musical tastes started to change. I fell in love with Elvis Costello and began searching for music that wasn’t so mainstream, something deeper,” she says.
Her decision to pick up the guitar at fifteen enhanced her songwriting ability. While attending Metropolitan Arts Institute in Phoenix, she performed as much as possible in her free time. Warner garnered a reputation throughout the school, “I sort of became the ‘go to’ girl for singing, especially The Star Spangled Banner, which, of course, I didn’t mind. Any opportunity to sing,” says Warner.
At nineteen, Warner moved to Los Angeles. “I met with a producer and we decided to work together, but it didn’t pan out exactly as planned,” Warner recalls. “It was a great experience for many reasons, but mainly because that’s when I met my manager.”
Established music manager Russell Carter, met with Warner. She decided to take another chance and move to Atlanta. Signed to Epic Records not long after the move, Nikki was afforded the opportunity to write with Dan Hannon, Aslyn, Tony Reyes, and James Black of Finger Eleven, hammering out her particular sound. “There was so much in my head, from working in L.A. to this new environment,” says Warner. “I just threw myself into the process.”
Her sound evolved to what she calls, “Simply me. I don’t want to label it because that automatically boxes me in, it definitely has pop/rock eliminates, but I just write what makes me happy. I grew up listening to too many different artists to restrict myself to just one sound.”
Nikki Warner has a powerful voice expressed through her writing in a professional grasp of the art form . “I’m most comfortable on stage. It’s something that's indescribable for me,” she says, “It’s my life, entirely.”
