LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - DVD buyers and renters had island fever for the second consecutive week. With no big new theatrical features hitting stores, "Nim's Island" remained on top of the national video sales and rental charts during its sophomore week in stores.

The family adventure from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment topped the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart and Home Media Magazine's rental chart for the week ended August 17.

The lack of new hit movies opened the sales chart to a rash of TV-DVD season sets and smaller films that might not have debuted as high had there been any theatrical competition. On the First Alert sales chart, for example, Paramount's "South Park: Season 11" bowed at No. 2, while Fox's Season 3 set of "Prison Break" debuted at No. 4. HBO's "The Wire: Season 5" came in at No. 6, and Disney/Miramax's "Smart People," a satiric film about academia, debuted at No. 7.

Meanwhile, on Home Media Magazine's rental chart, "Smart People" bowed at No. 2, chalking up 93 percent as much action in rental stores as "Nim's Island."

On the Blu-ray Disc front, Warner's "Batman Begins" remained on top of the sales chart as fans continue to flock to theaters to see "The Dark Knight." Lionsgate's "The Bank Job" was the No. 2 seller, and Sony Pictures' "21" slipped a notch to No. 3.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Confirming that there's no time like the summer to release a family film, "Nim's Island," the adventure comedy starring Abigail Breslin, Jodie Foster and Gerard Butler, captured the top spot on the national home video sales and rental charts for the week ending August 10.

"Nim's Island" (20th Century Fox Home Entertainment) came to DVD and Blu-ray Disc with a boxoffice gross of just $48 million, but its popularity on disc was enough to boot the previous week's top seller, New Line's "Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay," to a distant No. 2 on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart. In its debut week, "Nim's Island" outsold sophomore title "Harold & Kumar" by a margin of more than three to one.

On Home Media Magazine's video rental chart, "Nim's Island" scored a narrower victory, with "Harold & Kumar" snagging 78 percent as many rental transactions as the Fox family film, for a third-place finish. Sony's "21," the previous week's top renter, slipped to No. 2, with 85 percent as much rental action as "Nim's Island."

Sony's direct-to-video "Starship Troopers 3: Marauder" debuted at No. 5 on the sales chart. It was 12th on the rental chart.

On the Nielsen VideoScan Blu-ray chart, "Dark Knight" fever spurred "Batman Begins" to the top spot, with "21" at No. 2. "Nim's Island" debuted at No. 3. The previous week's top Blu-ray title, MGM's "Stargate: Continuum," slipped to No. 6.
