Nineofive is a fresh approach to worship music. Honest, from the heart, and real.
Nineofive got its humble start as a monthly youth worship event in Port Perry, Ontario and has grown into a thriving music ministry led by frontman and songwriter Josh McCabe. McCabe, who also plays drums for Canadian rock band Hello Kelly, says this about the project: "It comes from a place of recognizing God's desire to have an intimate relationship with his children and how we need to strive for that relationship daily!"
Nineofive's debut EP released on May 20th, 2008 and is set to hit iTunes during the summer, boasting six songs filled with catchy melodies, inventive arrangements and heartfelt lyrics. "There's a story to the lyrics on this project," explains McCabe. "When I sat down to write these songs, I was trying to write songs everyone could identify with, but I had been struggling in my own personal worship time. The songs felt rushed, and weren't really honest for me."
What followed was a time of searching and renewal. "I scrapped all the songs and started fresh! I started writing about what was truly on my heart; songs that reflected where I was at with my worship life." The result is a project that feels like a journey from start to finish. On the first track, "When I See You", McCabe sings earnestly about returning to God after spending so much time away from Him. The final tracks "I Give You All", and "Won't Be Afraid", are proclamations of praise and thanksgiving for how God lead him to a new place of devotion.
Though he spent nearly every evening and weekend between tour dates self-producing this project, McCabe had help in the long process from family and friends. Francois Goudreault, frontman for Hello Kelly, co-wrote "All Else Fades" and appears as a guest vocalist on "The Creator". McCabe's sister, Stephanie, appears as a vocalist on several tracks, and friends Josh McIntosh, Benjamin Butt, Tom Lang and Paul Odorico were also a part of the project. Despite spending time on their own different projects, the musicians in Nineofive always make time to lead congregations in worship: everything from simple coffee house gatherings to conferences with thousands of teens.
