Nine Strings is a duo project by Dan Barbiero (double bass) and Gary Rouzer (NS bass cello). We explore the territory between free improv and 20th century composition by using graphic scores, text, movement, painting and our ears.
We recorded material in Sept/Oct 2008 for our debut CD which will be available soon. For now we have released an EP titled "A Part of Wholes".
Also our live EP "Open Circuits/Communicating Fields" is now available. The music was recorded at Sonic Circiuts and Electric Possible here in DC in early 2009.
Nine Strings + Pilesar
A trio. Double bass (Dan) and NS bass cello (Gary) are amplified and fed into
effects and live loops (Jason). The three voices are then twisted via
post-production by Pilesar and spit out on a limited edition EP. I've
posted a song above. Released at Electric Possible in Washington DC on 02/11/09. Our first ever live performance as a trio is May 3rd at Pyramid Atlantic.
