Movies
WAITING!!!!! If you haven't yet, go find Iron & Silk. It's a fantastic movie about culture shock, martial arts, and self discovery. It features Pan Qing Fu, one of the true Grand Masters of our time. Not heavy on the fighting, this movie is more about culture than martial arts. This is based on a true story and the characters of Mark Franklin and Pan Qing Fu are played by their true life counterparts. Another great find is Rock & Rule, an animated movie from the early 80's set in a post-apocalyptic world where humans have been replaced by mutated animals. A fledgling rock band consisting of Omar, Angel, Dizzy, and Stretch draw the attention of legendary superrocker Mok who plans to use Angel's voice to summon a demon from another dimension. The soundtrack is amazing, featuring Deborah Harry, Cheap Trick, Earth Wind & Fire, Lou Reed, and more. More mainstream movies that I enjoy are The Last Samurai, Rock Star, Duets, The Fighting Temptations, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and The Matrix (first one only, thanks!)

I'm not a huge fan of TV, but I do have a few shows that I've liked over the years.

Books
I love to read. If it wasn't for the library I would never get my fix... I can't afford to buy books at the outrageous prices they're asking these days. $41 dollars for the lastest Harry Potter book?!?!?! Kiss my ass! But..... I digress. Here are some of my favourite reads.
Kitchen Confidential - Anthony Bourdain. This book should be required reading for any culinary/hospitality industry school program. It's the most forthright, honest account of restaurant life. Though some of it is a bit dated in the details now, the general experience rings true. ; A Cooks Tour - Anthony Bourdain. Bourdain took a year to travel the world and experience food at its most primordial, simple goodness as well as its most extravagant and esoteric. His accounts of his adventures are phenomenal and ripe with scents, tastes, and textures. ; Any of Bourdain's fiction. Filled with mafioso types and great food, Bone In The Throat, Gone Bamboo, and other titles are fantastic reads. ; OK! Enough plugging Bourdain! On to the rest of it.
The Hobbit - JRR Tolkien. Whereas I read Lord Of The Rings once, I can come back to The Hobbit again and again. My dad used to read to me from it every night when I was a kid. Ah! Memories! ; Much Ado About Nothing - Shakespear. I hated Shakespear in school. I hated picking it apart and destroying any chance of truly enjoying his plays. Now that 'm free to go back and read them at my leisure, I find Much Ado About Nothing to be my favourite.
Heroes
Heroes... I don't know if I believe in "heroes" or not. There are a few people that I look up to, however, who have influenced me in certain ways. Here they are:
Emeril Lagasse for his enthusiasm for food and the way he's drawn people in ; Anthony Bourdain for giving cooks a voice and being the most forthright, honest, and daring chef on TV these days. Check out his books, both fiction and non-fiction! ; The Swedish Chef for being the embodiment ofpure chaos in the kitchen! Bork bork bork! ; My good friend Clinton for being exactly who he is without compromising anything, and doing what he loves and not selling himself out. ; George Carlin for recognizing life for what it is: a goofy, fucked up experience that needs to be laughed at a whole lot more than it is
