i am transitioning from living 3 years at an Ashram upstate and for now migrating to central rural India til April 2009 to work at Shree's Homa Farm and in the surrounding villages with the women's industries while continuing to grow in my sadhana praying with Fire. when i return to NY, i will be camping in the Catskills as my new home, making a Homa Garden and generally experiencing the interplay of life on this camp we call Earth. i'm a kind of Native American Gothic and part Bengal meets Brooklyn. I am both interdisciplinary and undisciplined. i believe in action and equally in inaction. sometimes i sum this up in a phrase "PEACE & PURPOSE" --- what follows is (in no particular order) images from my story ....

this is one of many Afghan Refugee Rugs ( also called War Rugs ) i have collected. see the second page of my pics for more - incl this one. From a Brooklyn perspective, these rugs are punk rock. I found a resonance with this movement among Afghanistan's weavers as honoring a deeply wounded life in all its beauty and its badness. These are contemporary rugs woven in Afghanistan (and often in the Afghan refugee camps of Iran and Pakistan) beginning with the Soviet invasion in 1979 and with a resurgence since 9/11. Woven among the traditional folk art figures of birds, flowers and mosques are the new elements of iconigraphical war imagery, assault rifles, troop carriers, helicopters and bomber planes. Intricate border designs incorporate hand grenades, bullets and tanks. These tribal rugs are virtually all woven by women, forced into exile by wars and emerged as an underground art scene in the states in the the 80's. it is easy for me to relate to these as a means of expression and commemoration for women deprived of a voice.

For 3 years i was a resident on an Ashram where i had been archiving Guru's writing and audio, handling book/ CD orders for the Publication Trust inventory and Library, as well as a variety of ever-changing creative projects and struggling at integrating my life's work in visual art as prayer - all while practicing Agni Hotra as an integral part of my sadhana. this year i will be living and working 8 months in India with the Agni Hotra community there staying on the Homa farm and at the Soma Yag.
