I write music for classical instruments, and the occasional film or radio project. I have two divergent impulses as a composer – one is towards the austere beauty of sound itself, but I can't shake my love of big Romantic gestures. These days, I'm trying to reconcile these two impulses, to write music that both luxuriates in the sounds of the instruments, but that also retains those traditional hooks.
