Moneytown & Nitekrawler were written up in the May 1, 2009 Washington Post Weekend Section, Page 6, also available online here: Discovering Old D.C. Soul
Born and raised in the DC area, Nitekrawler (Kevin Coombe) began his DJ career while attending James Madison University. During college, Nite's partners in crime included DJ's Form and Hill B, and his forte was rocking the college Breakdancing events, houseparties, and shows. Before graduation, he experimented with music production for both himself and local hip hop artists, producing a song here and a song there.
When Nite returned home from college, what had once been occasional record shopping adventures had mutated into a time consuming and ultimately (irrational?) crate digging addiction. Searching for that next mind expander became the ultimate rush....with nothing quite as appealing as independently released RAW funk and soul.
Fast forward to present day.
Nite hosts the following events each and every month:
1- MONEYTOWN, A Funk and Soul Dance Party Extravaganza that goes down at Dahlak (Plus DC9 & Special Venues for One off events)
(1st Friday of the month)
2- THE POPCORN at Marvin
(last Friday of the month)
3- BREAKIN' GLASS at Wonderland with DJ Lunch Money. Hiphop*80s*funk*electro*boogie*disco*danceClassics
(3rd Saturday of the month)
In addition, Nite makes numerous guest appearances at clubs/venues up and down the East Coast. His events have been featured in everything from Modern Luxury Magazine to the Washington Post. In January of 2008, he was nominated for a WAMMY (Washington Area Music Association) award.
When not DJing, Nite engrosses himself in music research and related projects. His quest for elusive soul recordings has left him with a plethora of local material; each new discovery becoming a stepping stone towards deeper (and rewarding) obscurity. Based on this material, he has already launched a website documenting local soul related labels and artists called DC SOUL RECORDINGS (click link for more details), and will release a book detailing both the DC soul scene and the culture surrounding it during the 60s, 70s and 80s, numerous articles, re-releases of previously cut material, and new releases of never before heard recordings. The following releases have already hit the stores:
1- MUGO - Organize / Space Travel, a project completed with Kenny Dope on his Kay-Dee records label.
2- The ABCs Of Kid Soul: Home Schooled LP on the Numero Group record label.
3- George Smallwood - Lady Disco / Mr. Sunshine, a project completed on the People's Potential Unlimited record label.
Nite is also gearing up to launch his own record label: Hometown Soul Records. The label will give DJs, collectors, and music enthusiasts access to soul related material (both released an un-released) which never really got a chance to shine. Both vinyl and high-quality digital files will be available online and in retail locations.

Hey bro- I know you're gonna feel this! Soul legend LEROY HUTSON joined us on our radio show Midnight Soulstice last night. For one hour, we talked about his experiences as the lead singer of The Impressions, how he wrote "The Ghetto" with Donny Hathaway, why his amazing albums on Curtom Records never made it into the Top Ten and about his future plans. This is a very rare occasion to hear the man speak and listen to much of his amazing music. Tune in today and listen to the download of the entire show right here:
