room - nive nielsen
My name is Nive. I 'm an Inuk, a real eskimo from Greenland. Seriously.
I play music, mostly on my little red ukelele and with some help from my friends. I like that.
You can hear some of my songs on this page. Also there..s an EP on iTunes. But most importantly (drumroll...) I just finished recording my first album, yay oh yay!! The record is called "Nive Sings!" Cause well, I love singing, see. And playing. Oh and cowboy boots. And walking in the snow. I 'm scared of ghosts. And bugs. And ghost bugs as well. So I sing about them. About coffee also, and boys. And naughty reindeer. Amongst others. Hmm...
I ..m now looking for a nice lovely label. If anyone knows anything... Grin :)
What else... living pretty much all over the place these days. Back home up North, and traveling all around to play. It's awesome. And a little scary, too. Cause of the bugs, see. The ghosts have been alright, so far. Yup.
Anywayssss... Hope you like my little songs! Lemme know?
some info about my record "nive sings!":
I 've been asked quite some times now who 's playing on my songs (besides me and Cowboy Jan that is) and since my record ..s now finished I figured I oughta give some loud shouts and thank yous to all the amazing people who..ve helped. Here goes... "Nive Sings!" was recorded in Montreal, Bristol, San Francisco, Ghent, Tucson and also our attic in Nuuk. On it there..s good folks like John Parish, Alain Auger, Mr. Howe Gelb, thee amazing Ralph Carney, Matt Bauer, my pals Lisa Gamble (do check out gambletron and evangelista), Giselle Webber and Alden Penner (clues! rules), Eric Craven (from ao Hangedup and GY!BE), Mr. Patrick C (the Black Keys), and Arlen T (wolf parade). The inimitable Mister Eric Matthews helped a great lot also. Love you guys!
Hi Nive thought you might like photos from a warmer climate. :) Maybe you've heard of the special full moon festival called Loy Kratong in Thailand.
"The practice of Loy Kratong first began in the ancient kingdom of Sukhothai in the 13th century. A young queen named Nang Noppamas was believed to be the one who made a small boat laden with candles and incense and floated it down the river. The name Nang Noppamas has been associated with Loy Kratong ever since." (from Thailand.com)
Hello Dear! I hope you and Jan are well. Ella and I have left Portland and moved back home to Michigan. I am very happy to be back here and it feels good to be in a real house again. We live on the big lake and it will be very snowy here in the winter, but not like Greenland! Where will you spend the winter? Hugs and kisses to you both from Ella and I. xoxo
Hey, I have had a pretty eventful night… went to see Nieve and Jan who had the Desoto/sand men with them too! It was a fun gig, glad I made the effort… Got attacked by some wasted hoon round the corner tho. so after seeing the feller off recounted my experience to some random city boy (I assume) behind me who saw the fracas, he asked where I had been and I was surprised when I told him, not expecting him to know what the hell I was talking about to say "have you heard of the handsome family?" I didn't expect that, and despite his claims of being arrested for retaliation against such ruffians it restored my faith some what, as did the builder giving me directions when I found the station closed! And the slightly embarrassed look on the chap being wanked off by his girlfriend outside at the Sheen Lane garage on the way home…
