I'm Nick Houghtaling. I live in this small town in Southern California you've probably never heard of and probably wouldn't remember it if you did. I started playing music nearly four years ago the summer before high school. The first few years i played i wasn't very good at all...but i feel like in the last year or so i've gotten very good at my instrument. Almost exactly three years ago i started recording music, at first on my shitty cell phone, and afterwards on my slightly less shitty computer mic.
In January of 2008 me and my friends, Chris and Matt Fountain, started recording an album together. Although it was pretty much unsuccessful, a lot of good songs came from attempting to record. On January 4th of that year, i played my first show at a small coffee shop. It was terrifying, but i still think i did a pretty good job.
In March of that year, i played another show at the same coffee house with Chris and Matt accompanying me. It was a decent show, i think. At the time, i was very impressed. Around the summertime, i started hanging out with my good friends Sammy Rothman and Kyle Crawford a lot, and they taught me a lot about playing music. I've been writing a lot since then, and i've played two pretty great electric shows with Chris on drums and Sammy on bass.
My goal as a musician is to inspire people and help them get through life's problems. I also wanna have fun and reach a higher place with my music. If you enjoy it in any way, or if it helps you...let me know. I'd appreciate it. And thanks for listening.

hey nick, i have a little project i'm interested in doing and i wanted to see if you'd be up for it. I want to do like a split EP with someone else where we cover like two of the other persons songs. would you be interested in doing that?
yeah i took a listen when i first came across your music. i think that with a little more refinement, exposure to other styles, life experience/maturity and experimentation you'll find your own musical voice. and then it'll sound great. until then keep doing what your doing it sounds good.
i really like stop drop and roll and change my mind, probably the latter the most. I think it's always a good idea to record your songs ven if you're just going to give the cds away for free. I'm actually in Long Beach but i guess that's pretty close to the OC, but i'm looking into playing a few more shows this summer before i hole myself up and record again.
We're not going to be playing the same gig as Tubby Boots. It's weird having a mostly-instrumental band play after a band with singing, and it's also weird having a band that can put on a show that intense before us, so we'd rather have an acoustic opener. So, if you're down to play acoustic songs, or play with the Brothers Fountain for a few songs, that'd be awesome.
Sammy's going to help us book a gig in August, somewhere, someday, and since we don't want to play TOO many songs, we were wondering if you'd like to play before us?
