About me:
Biography (From Maladites Last Xmas 2006 Tour Programme):
Nathan Hughes is a gloomy kind of scribe, nicknamed ‘Son of a Reaper Man’ by his peers, since the age of 12 he has been writing about the darker side of the human condition for theatre, local radio and occasionally for regional TV. Born in North Lincolnshire during the winter of discontent, Nathan began producing plays and skits for school productions, before moving on to shorts films, the first of which (Day You Die) was screened as part of ITV’s now sadly defunct ‘Freescreen’. Between filming spoof inserts for E4’s Big Brother season and devising a soap opera (The Mayflower) for local radio station Stump FM, Nathan somehow found the time to co-found and help run a touring theatre company which saw much of his work premiered to audiences across the Midlands and East Anglia (Maladites Night In, Broken Strings and Maladites Last Xmas). 2005 was an important year for Nathan, having survived a rigorous screening process, not only he was given the opportunity to train at the Nottingham Playhouse and enter a piece of new writing (World: Shut Your Mouth) into the East Midlands Writer Partnerships ‘Momentum’ festival, whilst another of his one act plays (Chill Out Room) was crowned winner of the East midlands ‘Under 25’s Writers Challenge’. 2006 saw not only the premiere of Nathan’s topical (and well received) musical ‘The Monday Morning Riots’, it also heralded a new era as Nathan’s theatre company was awarded £12000 by Arts Council England to resurrect ‘Maladites Last Xmas’ and tour it around the region. Nathan began co-writing a sitcom ‘A Hive of Cretins’ at the end of the last century (a long time before they were vogue) and now, after may re-drafts and road-tests of the material he and co-writer Danny Mills have arrived in London to unleash their brand of oddball humour on the world. Hold on tight…
