Alex Koenig (working under the alias "Nmesh", pronounced 'mesh') started drumming for the hardcore band "execrate" (now "7 Day Sun") from 1997-2000. Around 2000 began the experimentation with various audio programs. 4 Weezer songs were remixed into a complete acid trip. One of which, included an unrecognizable ambient version of "say it ain't so". 2001, marked the release of an 80-minute DJ set in the style of radio one's essential mixes. the mix was entitled "session one: peel blue equinox", and was a rollercoaster of upbeat techno into dark, brooding ambience.
in the next couple of years, he recorded a large amount of music, heavily influenced by the likes of FSOL, Aphex Twin, etc, self-released on sonnja-barrum records. In 2002, Alex joined up with yet another metal band, "nemesis", to get back on the drums again. in less than a year, he left and continued to put all his effort into electronic music.
in 2003, Alex and members of "ayin" and "mobile feast utopia" formed the short-lived group "tuscarora", which included Daisy of the popular band ''Foxy Shazam". Several more full-length records were put out. in 2005, he joined his fourth group, "captain midnight & the riders of tomorrow", with Alex Darnell (formerly "controller") and Matt Murphree (aka "two-headed giant" & "fin randers"). "midnight" was mostly noise-based experimental music, and their methods were very unconventional-- for instance, Alex might play the dust-buster and 3 alarm clock radios, and darnell might play a circuit-bent furby toy. though the live shows were a bit disorganized but loads of fun, and it was nice to see something different live.
In November 2007, Nmesh was featured on the program "Beneath The Beat: Electronica", a podcast based out of New York City. The song "Hot Garbage" was also played in the background of a Tailgaters Sports Bar commercial, and one for Wicks Pizza in the Highlands.
There are around 20 albums/e.p.s released to date, and close to 550 songs in the library. Nmesh has collaborated with many artists and vocalists, and produces and works out of his bedroom studio in Louisville, KY, making music mostly in the electronic genre, spanning many different styles-- idm, house, experimental, glitch, mash-up, ambient, drum 'n bass, chill-out, dancehall, hip-hop and even some 8-bit video game music. One day, that bluegrass song might surface. (thanks Ryan).
