Music
Jaki Byard, in my opinion one of the greatest musical minds of the 20th century! Not a day goes by that I don't listen to Jaki's music he is by far one of the greatest pianists I have ever heard! And one of my favorite musicians! His music has influenced my life in very strong and deep ways. I regret that I did not get and will never have the opportunity to shake his hand and hear him play his brilliant compositions live and in person! R.I.P. Jaki Byard!(June 15, 1922-February 11, 1999)
Phineas Newborn Jr. also another one of my favorites, in one song Phineas could express many different styles and emotion put into a complex and truly amazing composition! Phineas was a very important piece of the development of Jazz during the "golden era". He still remains one of the top Jazz pianists due to his style of Jazz that was rarely heard before, It is obvious still to this day that Phineas Newborn was an influential and main piece to the development of Jazz history!
Erroll Garner, Erroll had an amazing ability to compose and make a song his own. Although Erroll did not read or use sheet music he could play just about anything merely from hearing it! And his many great and unique compositions inspired many young pianists during his time such as Jaki Byard. A very unique thing I have noticed about Erroll's playing is the way he used his left hand in many of his compositions and arrangements, He would have a very repetitive and rough sounding left hand with a sort of cheerful and nice tone to it.
Rahsaan Roland Kirk, A blind multi instrumentalist that was NEVER afraid to take chances and push boundaries. He led a fairly short but great life in Jazz. He opened many minds up to new ways to explore and enjoy music. Although Mr.Kirk mainly attracted the attention of modern free Jazz fans his music held characteristics of blues and classic Jazz as well (which later gained him a larger reputation and more fans in the Jazz world) Basically Rahsaan Roland Kirk was what Jazz is all about.
Charles Mingus, Among the most popular and important Avant-Garde Jazz composers, bassists and band leaders. Mingus worked with a remarkable number of key musicians throughout his 30+ year career in music and composed some of the most popular tunes and familiar melodies in the world of Jazz. Mingus has and will continue to go down in history as one of the greatest composers in Jazz! among others.
