THE EVENING MUSE…
I’m certain the time will come when I look back nostalgically on the night when I - insomniac that I am - laid awake in the embrace of some song that tormented my soul and held me captive as I followed it through the dark alleyways of memory. Music does that to me – it has the power to make me weep uncontrollably, laugh outrageously, twist shamelessly. I can close my eyes and literally inhabit the precise moment in time when I first heard the melody, felt the rhythm pierce my flesh and take up residence in my consciousness. It is a living thing that I am able to occupy…to burrow down into and lose myself in only to be beguiled by some delicious fiction I have accepted as truth. The particular song, this particular night, was the impetus that created what shall now be called: “The Evening Muse” – a detailed examination and analysis of the genesis of a composition, both lyric and music…the story behind the song. The idea actually took shape while I was completing work on my most recent album, ‘Familiar Addiction’, and had taken on a life of its own in the form of a journal that chronicled the process of writing songs for and recording the second CD. It has evolved from ‘my-journal’ to MySpace.
So, it begins…
I do not presume to have even the most remote level of expertise in the craft of songwriting; my motive is purely cathartic in nature and perhaps a touch self-indulgent. Me talking out loud…working my way through my own messes and attempting to sift through the debris looking for clues and trying to identify my dysfunction among the fragments. That’s all really. I invite you in. There is no magic here – only such as one may find cloaked in the wonder of our missteps and frailty, inadequacies and random passions. Beauty and utter bullshit…the roots of inspiration.
Each week, I will feature a particular song. I invite you to listen to it, read the lyrics…STUDY the lyrics. Examine them to find something that touches you, speaks to you. Leave a comment, send a message…respond in any way you wish.

Dear Noa,.. ...."To the spirit through the flesh to The Bone is the most original, insightful, painful, expository exposition of inner feelings and emotions that I have ever had the pleasure of feeling and experiencing in a VERY VERY VERY LONG TIME. This was Academy Award style writing. WAy beyond that. You have just entered the Super, SuperStar realm with that ONE, my Dearest One. .... ....I used to listen with rapture to India.Arie's song but this one that you're coming out with is much deeper and much more revelatory than that. You have tapped into the elemental pain and heightened awareness of timeless art as expressed through your lyrics and song. .... ....I MUST have this song when you have it ready!!!!!!!!!.... ....T....Captain T..

tender mercies, crying hearts, dreams that be, and those that start, o pains that come and hurt us deep rains that fall and the tears that seep o leather hands that worked too hard, seats of wood that hold us straight pillows of down to lay our heads, and a hearts cache of treasures we ll take to our grave, we need not fear strive nor strain, we are reaching up towards the sun we will remain the songs we sing the smiles we bring the love we share the gift we are, o a piano a guitar a flute a drum a hummm a humm a sing in the tub a sing on the stage, a vibrato of heart beats with meeting kind others, o lain on the altar of exposing our beings the mixture of wonder with all of our seeings, the clouds that we ride the blanket in which we hide the grass where we lay the places we pray the love the laughter the glee the groan the grab the flee, the strum the stroke the pick the poke the bum de da dum de da da
Noa, "From The Shadow", what a beautiful and moving song that is. You sing it with so much feeling, just living every word, wonderful, absolutely incredible. You must be America's best kept secret, because you are right up there with the very best and I say that with total conviction. Everything about this song is excellent, the arrangement, superb cello player and of course your immaculate vocals. I've just uploaded a new song, but after listening to this, I think I need to go back to the drawing board.lol. Hope you are doing well. Congratulations again on this masterpiece. Warmest regards, Paul
