Noah Wotherspoon was born in Dayton Ohio in 1982. Called an “old soul” by his grade school teachers for his inquisitive and thoughtful manner, Noah asked for and was given a guitar on his eleventh birthday. Blessed with uncanny talent, a vivid imagination and a deep love and respect for music and the trailblazing artists who preceded him, Noah immediately took to the instrument and quickly became noticed as a remarkable blues guitarist. At thirteen, he opened up for Derek Trucks. At fourteen, he jammed onstage with Bobby Blue Bland. By sixteen, he’d opened up for Leon Russell and Boz Scaggs, and since then has made multiple appearances at the Chicago Blues Festival. He recorded and released several traditional blues albums (including Buzz Me, through blues audiophile label APO, which garnered a top ten blues radio track) and met and played with legends such as Denise LaSalle, Latimore, Hubert Sumlin and Henry Townsend.
Over the past several years, Noah’s musical galaxy has expanded to take in a vast range of sounds and styles. Where else do the blues, Buddy Holly, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, T-Rex, T-Bone Walker, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Elliott Smith, Radiohead and Prince come together in a raucous mutant mix of sounds. He has independently released three albums and two EP’s, and is continuously broadcasting his music and S.O.S. signals from his offshore pirate radio station. Mind-bending mambos, underwater blues, macho riff rock, psychedelic hippie jams, rockabilly freak-outs, dance-hall ditties, death-disco, trance loops from the mothership: reverent and irreverent and unafraid to drive to the edge (and sometimes over) musical cliffs. That’s Noah—future shock from the distant past.
