The story of Noba begins in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dave, Jason and Mickey met at the University of Michigan their freshman year and began some experimental sessions in the basement of their college dorm. Not fans of the traditional beer-bong behavior, they opted to practice music instead of keg-stands in their spare time. The following year, during a Sunday shopping spree at Wal-Mart, they discovered Jeremy in the women's undergarment department. They were amazed at the commitment with which he shamelessly rifled through the over-sized panties bin. Without even knowing of his musical abilities, they enlisted him immediately. It was this type of blind passion that would help send the band straight to the top.
After only a short time playing together, the foursome began to draw hundreds of fans to the local music clubs each week. Their sound, once described as "a garage band in heaven," was widely known to kick your ass and then sing your lover to sleep. But soon enough they were ready to take their obsession one step further. They needed a place of new inspiration... a place where your entire paycheck goes to rent and the amount of people touching you at all times makes you want to punch yourself in the face. That place, my friends, was New York City.
Upon arriving in The Big City, Noba hit the scene with their denim textures and 3-part harmonies, and quickly began to pick up a loyal following. Preferring to further cultivate their sound, they waited a few years before recording their self-produced, "Man with a Breifcase". Ranging from raw rock anthems to sweet, summer ballads, this record resurrects musicianship and puts soul back into popular music.
Noba's follow up record, "With That Said" is their most direct effort yet. Spanning under 30 minutes this album delivers the furious side of the band that live audiences are so smitten with. They recorded and mixed the album in less than two weeks on equipment so old it would make the White Stripes sound like Britney Spears. The album is powerful and catchy with big choruses and strong songwriting backing loud guitars and tough beats.
"Man with a Briefcase" and "With That Said" are an amazing reflection of the great journey these four have taken together over the last few years. Noba is now ready to play for the world. And Jeremy still collects over-sized women's panties.
