I was born in Iran and moved to US at the age of 9. I went back to Iran at 13 and for the next two years I lived through the Iran-Iraq war. I lost my best friend in an Iraqi bombing. Years gone by and I see history about to repeat itself. I wondered why no one is talking about the views of the Iranian youth? They represent 70% of Iran's 70 million population. As one of the largest and youngest population in the Middle East, they are the future of Iran and the country's future policy makers. As an Iranian-American I went back to get their stories and the result was my documentary, NOBODY'S ENEMY. Having lived through war and conflict in the past, I think it is important to show the faces and the voices of Iran's youth to show that they are not the enemy that many may think they are. I thought it was time to focus more on our similarities versus our differences, which is what gets most of the spotlight today -- and create more of a balanced view. There is a cultural phenomenon happening in Iran and regardless of your political views -- one can not discount this vibrant and proud generation. Get to know them more ...
The IRAN you haven't seen yet ...Documentary will be coming out soon!
In the eyes of the west, Iran is a land of Islamist extremists, support for terrorism, and dangerous nuclear ambitions. But as one of the largest and youngest population in the Middle East (nearly 50 million out of 70 million of Iran's population is under the age of 30), there is a cultural phenomenon happening where these children of the revolution are experiencing a social and cultural growth process, that is different than what many people outside of Iran percieve them as. With an enthusiasm for self expression and entertainment, young Iranians look and live a lot like us -- and many outside of Iran don't even know it. Even as we move closer to the possibility of armed conflict, we remain stranded in ignorance about the "enemies" of our future.
In following its mission of fostering global youth dialogue, Chat the Planet has partnered with Iranian filmmaker, Neda, to produce Nobody's Enemy. This ground-breaking one-hour documentary lifts the veil of secrecy that has shrouded the faces of Iran's young people for the past 26 years. It examines their lives, voices and hopes in a time of great change and international instability. In the lead up to the most historic elections of the past three decades and a possible conflict with America or Israel, Neda, a first time Iranian-American documentary filmmaker, reentered the country of her birth and uncovered stories that young Iranians want to tell us -- stories we need to hear.
Right now Iran is seen as a country of contradictions and tension. Nobody's Enemy provides a necessary and intriguing peak into the heart of Iran's young people who stand at the center of its problems and at the helm of its future. There is nothing more pressing on the international stage than relations between Iran and the west. It is absolutely essential that we begin to understand each other and this film will be a landmark step in the direction of dialogue and tolerance. A small step towards humanizing a culture that is so often dehumanized in the media today.

"I'd like to believe that people in the long run are going to do more to promote peace than our governments. Indeed -- I think that people want peace so much that one of these days, government had better get out of the way and let them have it." "All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed, second it is violently opposed, and third, it is accepted as self-evident." "Be humble. For the worst thing in the world is of the same stuff as you. Be confident. For the stars are of the same stuff as you."
The Flute We are as the flute, and the music in us is from thee; we are as the mountain and the echo in us is from thee. We are as pieces of chess engaged in victory and defeat: our victory and defeat is from thee, O thou whose qualities are comely! Who are we, O Thou soul of our souls, that we should remain in being beside thee? We and our existences are really non-existence; thou art the absolute Being which manifests the perishable. We all are lions, but lions on a banner: because of the wind they are rushing onward from moment to moment. Their onward rush is visible, and the wind is unseen: may that which is unseen not fail from us! Our wind whereby we are moved and our being are of thy gift; our whole existence is from thy bringing into being. Rumi
