Because we don't know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well, yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number, really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that's so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more, perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless.

Once again the time draws near
when all is haunted, bleak and drear,
my heart yearns for this hallowed eve
when webs of death and fright we weave

children shriek in sheer delight
innocents unloosed into the night
they do not see the darkness hiding
fearsome demons their dark time biding

witches mix their noxious brew
turning reptiles to loathsome stew
Vampires drink deep of warm, sweet blood
as zombies rise from the muck and mud

the heart years for this fearsome night
while echo in the moonlight screams of fright
the heart yearns out for death so near
on this night of nights that comes once a year...
