Since the debut-MCD release of "Vision" in 1993, Sweden's premier hardcore pop-punkers NO FUN AT ALL growed into a tight, intensive and frantic mean killing machine. Something that has been proved on hard-exercised tours all across the globe. Back in 1993, little did anyone expect that out of Skinnskatteberg, a small Swedish town of 4,000 inhabitants would arise a band that was soon to pave way for a Swedish punk and hardcore 'boom' and that would soon even be hailed, praised and 'adopted' in Southern California - the ..1 stronghold for melodic punk.
Started out by main-songwriter, former guitarist now bass-player and Black Sabbath/Paul Simon freak Mikael Danielsson, NO FUN AT ALL managed to get out of kindergarten very quickly. This despite not being especially serious or dedicated at first, things changed very quickly when Burning Heart Records (as one of the labels very first releases), decided to release the "Vision" single. Originally meant to be a 'hope-we-can-sell-all of them' initial press of 1 000 copies, the single has since gone on to sell an amazing +25 000 copies (not bad for a debut EP). Safe to say it totally paved way for what was later to come, both in success for NFAA as for Burning Heart Records and the whole Swedish hardcore/punk explosion that followed.
The albums released by NFAA - ("No straight angles" 1994, "Out Of Bounds" 1995, "The Big Knockover" 1997 , "State Of Flow" - (April 2000), NFAA became an established unit all over the world. A band that definitely earned themselves a place in the punk/ hardcore hall of fame.
In the beginning the influences from bands like BAD RELIGION and 7 SECONDS and other Californian punk bands were quite obvious, but the band developed their own sound more and more by every album. There has also been strong influences from the English new wave scene (MAGAZINE, ELVIS COSTELLO, XTC, THE JAM etc.) and the 70's/80's hard rock scene (BLACK SABBATH, LED ZEPPELIN etc.) in NFAA's approach to music. Naturally bands like DEAD KENNEDYS, BLACK FLAG, CIRCLE JERKS, POISON IDEA and the RAMONES has also fed the soul and fuel of inspiration for NO FUN AT ALL.
After 8 years together and a fantastic career, Sweden’s premier pop-punker’s NO FUN AT ALL has decided to quit.
No Fun At All’s break through came back in 1994, with the release of the classic album” No Straight Angles”. The follow-up “Out Of Bounds” was released the year after, and the band has since then released another two albums,” The Big Knockover” and the latest, ”State Of Flow” that was released in the spring of 2000.
In 2004 NO FUN AT ALL split up.
NO FUN AT All’s melodic punk has earned them a place in the punkrock hall of fame, with a couple of hundred thousand albums sold to prove it. They will be missed by a lot of people who has supported the band over the years.
”We’ve had a great time with the band” says singer Ingemar Jansson.
”We’ve played most parts of the world, and have earned ourselves memories for life. But each thing has it’s time, and we feel that we want to quit while we personally still believe we are a great band.
