Sometimes, it cannot be argued that events in life seem to take place for an obvious purpose or reason. On an off Friday night in mid- January, Dan Devincenzo stepped into his favorite local coffee shop still carrying his mandolin from a previous jam session. On the agenda that night, besides dark coffee and dim lit conversations, was the featured artist, Andrew Ginsberg performing an acoustic set. Andrew saw the musical stranger out of the corner of his vision and his eyes fell upon the small musical instrument placed fashionably on the table. The instrument’s owner sat hands folded in careful observation watching smoothly from a corner spot. Andrew quickly invited him onto the stage to play a few tunes. Andrew recalls the moment as a time when “it all just clicked together for me…” He was so moved by Dan’s impromptu brilliance and impressive musical vocabulary that he asked him to come back and play every Friday. The two became immediate friends and the two-piece act became a small local hit, generating a small fan base of people who enjoyed the chemistry the two musicians electrified on the small stage.
After several months of playing together, the two scrapped the acoustic cover band for a more ambitious project…forming a band with a “new” sound. A phone call was placed to Jeff Walters, a long time friend with an impressive musical track record, including several diverse and interesting projects he was apart of. Jeff quickly joined up to play the bass guitar and Andrew’s long time friend, Nick Caliendo was recruited to give the music life. Andrew and Nick had been playing together for several years on a small scale. The band became, ‘”Noistradamus”.
As a band, their first single, “Love and the Letter” was hailed as their most diverse and multi-generational tune. Exemplifying ideas from all aspects of musical life, the song summarized the new and unique sound that would later define Noistradamus. Followed by, “Sinking Ships”, a simple love song with a trance-inducing melody, the band took off in the never-ending quest for new ideas in music. In December 2007, “The Movie Syndrome EP” was recorded and released independently. The EP includes the darker and punchy “Thirteen Ways too look at the Ground”, the rock-jam flavored “This May Feel Strange(If You’re still Breathing), and finishes with the climatic, “Electrodaydreams”… a commentary on the inner conflict of the personal self.
Noistradamus is now a four person musical outfit that breathes one single, unique sound. Formed in 2007, Noistradamus stretches a genre of music until the defining barriers crush under the pressure of a new genre being formed from the music...rather than the new music being formed from a genre. Carried by Dan Devincenzo's ambient, cultured, and charming guitar playing, Andrew Ginsberg's frequent, yet recognizable vocal arrangements and subtle rhythm guitar compliment Jeff Walter's artistic, ambitious, polished bass guitar sound. It all comes together with the sophisticated detonation of Nick Caliendo's sincere and tactical drumming. One fan described them as "Popgressive". Noistradamus is currently unsigned and pressing foward in their continous endeavors to make new, fresh music. So sit back, turn up your speakers, and taste the music. we played jersey on our last two summer tours and it was pretty weird. we played in brunswick and there were no street signs anywhere and no street lights. and the summer before we had to drop some girl off and she didnt know where she lived so we were driving around till 4 a.m. looking for this chick's house!! if we come through jersey again soon would you guys know a good place to play?!
