At NOLS, we take people on real wilderness expeditions in remote areas. These aren't guided tours: You won't be sitting in a bus while the scenery is described to you over an intercom. You'll be living in the backcountry, seeing it up close and in person.
You'll learn to be a leader. You'll practice technical skills like summitting peaks and running rapids–all while earning college credit. Financial aid is also available.
What do you want out of this summer? If you want a challenge, some new skills, and a wilderness experience you'll never forget, pick out the course that's right for you from the list below.

Thank you for adding me to your website. I am taking your Windriver Mountaineering course this summer and I'm very excited to be a part of the experience.
2002 wind rivers course, how amazing. Still I long for adventure ever more so. since then I've became Christian, Backpacked Europe un-solo with Jesus, hitchhiked there and the US, joined the Army, tried to become a missionary (not yet though, and lived with a constant passion for Adventure. Just waiting for Life to allow me to take off and truly Live~
Hey! Just wondering if I could set up an interview (time to talk and as questions) with a graduate of an outdoor educator class? Sometime soon would be great! I'm assuming office hours are during the week. Maybe I should just call on Monday??
I miss you NOLS! I was supposed to go on the OES starting in a few days, but I had shoulder surgery and couldn't make it. I am recovering fast, but not fast enough to do the course. I'll be back!
Thank you so much for the response. I actually would be interested in speaking with a graduate of one of the outdoor educator courses. There are a couple different ones, correct? A month-long and a 3 month long? Would I just call the main NOLS number and request to speak with a graduate?
How likely is it to be admitted into a NOLS outdoor educator class if you are a few years out of college, don't have a degree in Outdoor Education or PE and have only a couple jobs on your resume that qualify as "outdoor" sort of jobs?
It is my sincere hope that the contemporary wilderness canoe enthusiast may learn from hearing the story of our ill-fated canoe expedition into the interior of Labrador in 1903. My book about this venture The Lure of the Labrador Wild is now available as an unabridged audio edition from Rattling Books.
It is a sad tale indeed but hopefully one from which we can all learn.
My greatest respect for your mandate of education,
Why is it that NOLS is not a school you can choose to be an alumni from... or maybe it is but I think I tried everything. I wanted to look up people from my Patagonia Semester Spring 2003!
Can't believe it's been almost 14 years since that great month in the Winds - how I do miss Wyoming. Howdy to my RMB pals and anyone left who might remember this LVHS scholarship kid.
