  • Bio

Nomada was founded by rom Balogh Gusztáv in 2003. Although the music of Nomada is derived from the hungarian gypsy tradition, it creates a unique sound by mixing various styles. It blends gypsy folk music with spanish, arabic, and serbian folk music elements. The vocals come with the caracteristic gypsy rhythm pattern and singing style, enriched by the grooves provided by the drums and the bass guitar. However, without the violin and the accordion, the special sound of the Nomada could not be complete. The powerful and ecstatic music of this group conjures up a far-away, ancient world. The songs are sung in Romanes (the rom language) and most of them are about the life of the gypsies. They speak of sadness, pain, joy and happiness with unusual opennes and honesty.

Gusztáv Balogh vocals, guitar Despite his young age, he is a much sought-after musician. He has played, among others, with Mónika Mitsoura, Béla Szakcsi Lakatos, Romano Drom, and he is regularly on tour all over Europe with ensembles that play traditional Gypsy music. Although he performs authentic Rom music, he is interested in new sounds and muscial fusions, and founded his band Nomada on this vision. He is not only the singer but also the guitarist and the song-writer of the group. Edina Szirtes "Mókus" vocals, violin, accordion As a virtuoso musician she is familiar with a variety of styles, still she has managed to develop her own, special sound both in singing and on violin. She has composed music for exhibitions and dramatic performances (Szeged Contemporary Ballet). These compositions merge Classical, Ethno and Jazz styles. She has contributed in numerous well-known Hungarian groups and performers (Muddy Shoes, Hevesi Tamás, Zséda, TNT, Nyers, Kovácsm--hely, Rakonczai Viktor, Gallai Péter, Kovács Kriszta). She is also regularly on tour in Europe with her own bands (Blues B.R.Others, Dafina, Hajnal, Ex-trió, Alex Paid Holiday, Kollár Attila Band, Bohém vonósnégyes, Pavlovits Dávid). A distinctive talent withinNomada, she plays the violin on a wide scale, without any stylistic bounderies, and she performs the Gypsy songs with deep feeling and emotion. Attila Boros bass He has contributed to a number of music productions so far, in styles that range from Jazz and Funk-Pop to Ethno and Raggae. Since 1996, he is the member of the avantgarde Jazz-Rock band Kada, with which he has released some CDs and DVDs (http://kada.mentha.hu/). With the group Chalga (www.chalga.hu) he plays folk music of the Balkans. In May, 2006 he joined the group Makám (www.makam.hu) He enriches the complex sound of Nomada with his ideas in orchestration, and with his characteristic fretless bass technique. Gerg-- Ballay drums In the 90's he released albums with Sonia és a Sápadtarcúak, a group which toured Europe. Later he became a member of the experimental Jazz-Rock band Kada (http://kada.mentha.hu/) that released albums available worldwide.
