n.o.madic tribal is New Orleans' premier tribal troupe, performing weekly since 2003. We've performed locally at a number of venues and events, including Dragon's Den, Blue Nile, Cafe Brasil, One Eyed Jacks, Tipitina's, New Orleans' Museum of Art's Grand ReOpening, and the Contemporary Arts Center's DramaRamas 10, 11, 12, 14, and 15.
Our dance roots reach back to Fat Chance Bellydance via Devyani, as all members of n.o.madic were students of Devyani, and most of us were members of Devyani New Orleans. Our dance continues to reflect these roots, but we have been influenced by other dancers and dance styles, including old-schoolers like Amel Tafsout and Morrocco, new-schoolers like Rachel Brice, Mira Betz, and Kassar, and quiet innovators like Teresa Tomb of Rakadu Gypsy.
For the uninitiated, tribal style bellydance is a completely anachronistic fusion form of improvisational bellydance from no specific place or time.
Rather, tribal style bellydance honors the Romani Trail, the path taken by the Rom people--(we sometimes call them Gypsies, not knowing that to many, gypsy is a derogatory term). The ROM traveled out of north India through what today is Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, and Iraq, all the way to north Africa and even up into Spain. The style of dance we do takes elements from the dances of all these places and fuses them together in a lovely and stylized way.
This fusion adds a mythic quality to not only the movements, but also to the costumes, for our costumes--like the movements--are from everywhere and no where, making them timeless.

Við vildum bara minna á eftirfarandi dansiball. Lukku Láki, 24. maí, beint eftir að Íslandi hefur loksins tekist að vinna Evróvisjón og við erum að búast við þér á staðnum í hörku stuði! Við lofum að spila ekki eitt einasta Eurovision lag, þar sem við vitum að landinn verður kominn með hundleið á þeim þegar líða tekur á nóttina ;)
I just went through your photos and I have to tell you how stunning you all are and how lovely your costumes are. Postures are fab and just all around polished panache! If you ever get out west do let me know!
Við vildum bara minni á að við spilum ekki á laugardaginn næsta á Hressó eins og áætlað var vegna .. jah, vitleysu. En við munum í staðinn halda feitt partí í buxunum okkar á föstudeginum 25. apríl á sama stað, Hressó. Endilega, ekki mæta á laugardaginn, sparaðu þig frekar fyrir 25. apríl .. það verður miklu skemmtilegra, við lofum!!
