Friends and lovers, the hopemeat, a half-dead half-naked black woman in the gutter outside the greyhound station in east St. Louis in the dead of winter, the groans of methadone homes, Banksy's paintbrush, Buddy's battered and broke open chest, Angels dressed in black, Kurt Cobain's shotgun, Bob Hicok's syntax, Jeffrey McDaniel getting tenure, dogpile on Derrick, the Write Bloody logo, the way Mindy hugs, the good boys of Church St. and the lost boys of everywhere else we went looking for a name to call ourselves home.
