About me: I am a comedian, actress, recovering eating disorder survivor and motivational speaker. I am very fortunate to speak to students on College Campuses all across the US and Canada about eating disorders, body image and healing.
My eating disorders started early. I was put on my first diet at the age of ten. Before my big audition for the Broadway production of Annie, an agent told me, “There are no fat Annie’s - you need to lose some weight.”
The next fifteen years were filled with diet pills, fad diets, starvation, extreme exercise, depression, and bulimia. I was constantly trying to lose that “extra” ten pounds. I had an eating disorder for 15 years and had no idea!
After being hospitalized due to the effects of my eating disorders, I decided to fight back and learn to set my OWN standards. I feel it’s very important for young women to understand what they are doing to their bodies – destroying it! I was brutal to my body and myself. I want for others to learn from my mistakes. I am now a professional stand-up comedian, actress, motivational speaker, certified personal trainer, and an eating disorder survivor. It’s not easy admitting that I had a problem. But, I’ve been without urges for over five years now. I speak to students all over the US and Canada about my personal story of my battle with eating disorders and how I struggled to overcome them.
In my presentation “Looking Through Broken Mirrors: Understanding Eating Disorders and Body Image,” I am brutally honest, with a sense of humor of course. Included in my presentation is a discussion on media’s influences and the “smoke and mirrors” of magazines and TV. I also address the harsh realities of anorexia, bulimia, crash diets, fad diets, and exercise addiction. I provide the tools for learning self-acceptance by finding your personal strengths, talents, and most of all learning to set your own standards in all areas of life.

but the spirit of young people who are used as sex slaves in the systematized global industry of human trafficking is now reaching out to the human fellowship in hope and desperation and through technology ...
it is scary when humanity turns a blind eye to this horror ... its like ignoring genocide whilst it is happening ...
what i am asking is that if you hear the cry of these young people who are existing in an environment of torture and brutality each and every day that you then please do not turn away from them ...
please reach deeply into your heart and soul and please in 2009 join a movement or become a part of an event that challenges modern slavery in the 21st century ...
