Unfortunately there are no known recordings of many of the other projects that John has poisoned/graced over the years. Bands like DVFD (The Dresden Volunteer Fire Department), Mitchell & the Marigolds, Johnny Carbon & The Copies, and the late, great Paramour with Jennifer London. Somewhere there are recordings of his guitar work with Big Train (first-round WBCN Rock N' Roll Rumble losers) & The Harmony Rockets (no, not the Mercury Rev side-project--the other, other, other one that was based in Boston), but such recordings probably only survive in the form of these weird objects called cassette tapes. Does anyone have a tape deck anymore?
He tried his own band for a while called "Squash" & you'll find some of it's demos here.
Oh, and he acts. See a short film:
