Advokit was, is, and will always be the front man for the entity of Non Status with extended fam such as Sundance Kid, Benny E, Creeazn, and occasionally Nekkbone making live appearances.
Influences
Influences range from golden era artists such as EPMD, Big Daddy Kane, GangStarr.Then theres artists still killing it today that give the drive such as Common, Nas, Tha Dogg Pound, Aesop Rock, Redman.Also newer cats like Joell Ortiz, Hell Rell, and Freeway. I can't forget to call out people I consider friends and/or associates like Touch & Nato(Reps), Politic Live, Rezofficial, RN, Low Budget Affiliates, Cadence Weapon, Classified, John Smith, Manik, and Red 1 & Kemo.
Hip hop music in Edmonton, Alberta can be defined as simply confused. When Non Status assembled several years ago they took it upon themselves to make it their mission statement to bring an identity to a scene full of few leaders and countless followers. Marlon Wilson of See Magazine featured Non Status as the “Top 5 To Watch”.
The group was conceived by Chris Lee aka Advo, having been performing and recording hip hop music prior to this as a solo artist affiliated with one of Edmonton’s pioneering rap groups Dangerous Goods Collective. In the first stage of Non Status, the group was composed of Advo, Nekkbone, and Sundance Kid. Nekkbone had met Advo through attending local shows and performing in mc battles. Soon thereafter Sundance Kid(formerly of Warparty) joined the fold as the official DJ and Non Status was complete. For the next 2 years the group took Edmonton by the reigns by performing alongside major label acts such as The Game, 112, Young Buck, and Chamillionaire to name a few. Also, Non Status was the only hip hop group to perform at the 2005 Canada Day Centennial Jam in Commonwealth Stadium with other acts like Randy Bachman, Calico Drive and The Barenaked Ladies.

With a minor change in the group’s line up, Non Status is still on the continuous rise to much greater success with the release of Status Quo in an updated form all the while maintaining their original mission of giving the city of Edmonton its much needed facelift.
