Andrew Bell's Interests
|
| General | Way to much.
I like to learn.
I love music, movies, music videos, and internet "shows"
Being active is important to me. Biking, hockey, Martial Arts, Skiing, Swimming, and walking have all filled that roll for me in the past. I like rock climbing but haven't done much of it.
My brain needs activity too. I read a lot about the world, but not in a traveling sence. I like to know what's going on in a political / social sence. I like to think about how things are going to turn out in my life time. I like being a fortuneteller ;) | | Music | Yes, always music. On head phones, at work, from a computer, from a cd, from the radio, on a stereo, from a DJ, from a band, while doing dishes, for eating, in the background talking to friends, thumping loud, quite while falling asleep, while driving fast, in a concert hall. Always music.
Who do I like?
Well I like to get CD's based on what my friends don't have. I don't tend to buy popular music because I know I will always be able to find it. I like to buy CD's of friends because I like to know what they are doing. I like things that are engaging, things that are fun, things that sound pretty, and things that sound gritty. I like music with emotion. I like music that inspires me.
Right now I hear lots of: The Postal Servic, Chilled House Compilation CD's like AfterDark:Montreal, a Mixmag chill out selection, Bargroves:Cosmopolitan
I own:Underworld, Future Sounds of London, Chemical Brothers, Orbital, Smashing Pumpkins, Primal Scream, The Faint, Protishead, Spoon, Derrik Carter, Demitri From Paris, U2, Mark Farrina, Tom Petty, Tegan and Sara, St. Germain, Skinny Puppy, NIN, Alice in Chains, Collective Soul, Soundgarden, STP, Tragially Hip, Alice Cooper, Air
Someday I might own: Beastie Boys, Metalica, AFI, My Chemical Romance, Avalanches, Bedwin Sound Clash, Brand New, Dirty Vegas, Low, The killers, Ramstine, Iron Maiden
Guilty pleasures: Pet Shop Boys, Enya, Kraftwerk, Sarah McLachlan, my compliation CD's of early '90 trance and psy-trance (complete with Moby and Carl Cox mixin it up). | | Movies | This section is almost as difficult as the music section. I want to write down movies along with why I liked them, because some of them, under certain lights, are kind of.... well off.
I like comedies, action flicks, crime movies, Sci-fi, and things that are challenging.
Blade Runner, Akira, Mel Brooks, Peter Sellars, Steve Martin, Bill Muray, Cameron Diaz, John Malkavich, Christopher Walkin, Johnny Depp, Tim Burton, Alice In Wonderland, Toys, City of Lost Children, Brazil, The last Super, Army of Darkness, Monty Python, Layercake, Snatch, Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas, Brekfast Club, Barbershop, Very Bad Things, Requiem For a Dream, Brown Bunny, City of God, Deer Hunter, The Lost Boys, Interview with the Vampire, Blow, James Bond, Disney's Robin Hood, Alien, Terminator ... all of them, The Devils Rejects.
I think I will stop now, it just keeps going. | | Television | Turn it off!!!!
---------------------------------------
Live | | Books | So I read a bit.
Most people will find what I read dull though.
Reading H.P. Lovecraft, turn of the century horor right now.
Roberson Davies has great characters.
I think Shakespear was a genius.
I have subscriptions to the Economist and Foreign Affairs magazines.
I read news papers on line.
I like Sci-fi when it asks "what if" questions.
I am a fantasy snob, I refuse to read Harry Potter because I am stubourn. Narnia, Prydain, and Middle Earth are where it's at. The wheel of time is addictive. I have no interest in reading other fantasy serries, see above mention of snob.
I read a lot about economics and politics. I want to know how changes in the world effect the people I live with. I don't want to see any more wars, I don't want to see people start disapearing into secret prisons, I don't want another depression to happen. I would put down some books about this stuff but what one person will like another will call a sleeping pill. | | Heroes | I like rockers, artists, polititians, farmers, academics, labour and managment.
I know more then I should about Dali, DuChamp, and Max Ernst. I like the courage of Chavez, Castro, de Silva, Morals.
I like bands that put it all out on stage, there are to many to list.
I like people who show restraint, I like people who cut completely loose.
*********************
I want to be my own hero. |

Television - Composition - Development
|
Is development writing. I have a bunch of shit down for a TV worthy thingy, but I need some money to keep me alive while I make it into a bunch of 30 min scripts. Any takers?

Publishing - Editor - Other
|
Damn it, I don't really like editing, I like creating. I think it is the curse of the writer, always marginalized or at least bitiching about supposed marginalization.
