2. What cast recordings are Norbert on?

Norbert can be heard on the following cast recordings:

3. What is Norbert's biography?

Full Name: Norbert Leo Butz
Occupation: Singer, Actor, Performer
Date of Birth: January 30th, 1967
City Of Birth: St Louis, Missouri
Relations: 7th of 11 children of the Butz Family
Wife Sydney (Separated)
Wife Michelle Federer (July 2007-Present)
Daughters Clara Virginia and Maggie Lou

Educational Background: Bishop Dubourg High School (St Louis, Missouri)
Webster College (B.A. In Theatre)
Alabama Shakespeare Festival (M.F.A)
Broadway Debut: Rent (1996) Norbert Leo Butz has originated an impressive number of critical acclaimed characters and roles. His biggest roles to date include: taking over the role of Roger Davis (and being a swing for many of the principal characters) in the long running fan favorite Rent; the featured role of Camille, the murdered husband in Harry Connick Jr's Thou Shalt Not (His first Tony Award nomination); the role of the young and hopeful Jewish writer Jamie in The Last Five Years (Drama League Award for Best Actor among others); an award winning portrayal of the ghoulish Emcee for the National Broadway Tour of Cabaret (Helen Hayes Award); the role of Fiyero, the fun loving, dancing-through-life Winkie prince who comes to be the love object of the two witches Elphaba and G(a)linda in Wicked; and finally, the crude, vulgar, coniving, yet strangely lovable Freddy Benson in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (Norbert received his second Tony nomination and his first, well-deserved Tony Award for the role as well as garnishing almost all of the top awards for leading actor in a musical for 2005).

4. WOW! The songs on this page are great! What are they from?

Desert Island: This is from a demo recording made for the show High Fidelity, based on the book by Nick Hornby and movie staring John Cusack of the same name. This show is being produced for the fall. As far as the general public knows, Norbert is not involved.

I Could Be in Love With Someone Like You: When The Last 5 Years was originally in Chicago with Norbert and Lauren Kennedy, this song was in it instead of Shiksa Goddess. When it made its move to Manhattan, Shiksa Goddess replaced it.

This is Not Over Yet: This song is in the Jason Robert Brown musical "Parade. " Norbert sang this at a benefit concert called "The Last 10 Years." The concert was to honor the work of Mr. Brown.

A Light in the Dark: As sung by Norbert during the cutting room reading of "Feeling Electric." Listen closely, you may hear a familiar voice singing in the background! That of the one and only Sherie Rene Scott.

Oh man, I met Norbert in December after seeing "Is he dead yet?" he's the sweetest thing. I made a shirt that he loved and signed, and he was so patient when my mom couldn't work the camera! It's amazing how down to earth he is. Gotta love that man.

I am circulating this message around myspace.... so if it seems strange as a comment on someone's page, it's because it's meant to be a message... Anyone in the South Louisiana area... Please Read Below:

Just wanted to let you know that the Nicholls Players of Nicholls State University are putting on their second, hopefully annual, student showcase performance. For those of you who I don't know personally, you may want to know that I am the president of the theatre here at Nicholls, but we unfortunatly no longer have a theatre program of study (it was cut due to budget reasons). So, all theatre is now up to the Students and we are starting our Theatrical revolution!

This show is completely student directed, designed, produced, acted, and partially written. It takes on the form of a variety show featuring pieces from beloved theatrical features such as Saturday Night Live, Monty Python, and Broadway musicals. It is a highly funny show and I hope that many of you may be able to make it out to little old Thibodaux to see us perform.

The Show, entitled FUN! A night of monologues, music, and short plays...., will run JAN 18 - 19 at 7:30pm and JAN 20 at 3:00pm. All performances will be held in Talbot Theater on Nicholls campus and admission will be $5.00. Our production is intended for mature audiences (we were told we should say that.....)

If you have any other questions, feel free to write me!

Sincerely yours,
JOEY PIERCE

Tony Award-winner Norbert Leo Butz talks about his first reaction on being approached about appearing in a "new" Mark Twain play, Is He Dead?, and about the construction of farce and how David Ives crafted the version of the play currently on Broadway; recalls his classical training at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival; marvels at the good fortune that landed him in the company of Rent only two weeks after moving to New York; considers the experience of appearing in the critically unpopular Harry Connick musical Thou Shalt Not; describes the feeling of playing a character in The Last Five Years based on composer Jason Robert Brown -- with Brown often directly behind him as he sang; recounts the loss of a song for Fiyero when Wicked was out of town in San Francisco and how he worked with Stephen Schwartz in choosing a replacement; and delineates the difference between performing in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with John Lithgow and his successor, Jonathan Pryce.

The NY Times gave "Is He Dead" a positive review seen here:

http://theater2.nytimes.com/2007/12/10/theater/reviews/10dead.html?ref=theater

The review basically says that Norb saves an otherwise mediocre project!

Even sweeter is the Audio Slideshow narrated by Norb on the main Theater page of the NYTimes online. Check out the interview...Norb talks about the play and growing up with the Mark Twain heritage in St. Louis...

I know that this page is not actually his page, but it is fun to pretend and hope that maybe he may check it and see my post:

I just want to say thank you to him. Thanks for all of wonderful talents that he is sharing with the world. Thanks for all of the great music that I love so much. Thanks for making road trips that much more fun as we blast The Last 5 Years in my stereo and sing along. Most of all, thank you for the inspiration. I want so badly to be a performer and it can be a very trying adventure... but when I hear his music, I know that I want to do that! Thanks, Norbert, for all you've done for me even though you had no idea you were doing it. A big fan, Joey

Here Is Some Information On Norbert's New Play "Is He Dead"

Is He Dead?
Norbert Leo Butz stars in the world premiere of Mark Twain's fast-paced comedy.

Inspired by the posthumous bidding war that broke out between the United States and France over Jean-Francois Millet's painting "The Angelus," Is He Dead? is a fast-paced comedy about a group of poor artists who stage the death of their mentor to drive up the price of his paintings.Broadway.com's 2007 Fall Preview! In order for the scheme to succeed, the artists hatch various hilarious plots involving cross-dressing, a full-scale fake funeral, lovers' deceptions and much more.

Though written in 1898, Is He Dead? remained unpublished until it was rediscovered in 2002 by Twain scholar Shelley Fisher Fishkin. This landmark premiere is a chance to experience the never-before-seen work of a great humorist at the top of his form.

It Previews On November 8th,2007 and Opens November 29th, 2007

ALSO...

I went last night and saw the Sneek Preview for "Dan In Real Life" It's such a good movie, very funny with a great cast. Norbert of course was funny and fine! The Chemistry between Norbert, Dane And Steve just worked so well.
