4. WOW! The songs on this page are great! What are they from?
Desert Island: This is from a demo recording made for the show High Fidelity, based on the book by Nick Hornby and movie staring John Cusack of the same name. This show is being produced for the fall. As far as the general public knows, Norbert is not involved.
I Could Be in Love With Someone Like You: When The Last 5 Years was originally in Chicago with Norbert and Lauren Kennedy, this song was in it instead of Shiksa Goddess. When it made its move to Manhattan, Shiksa Goddess replaced it.
This is Not Over Yet: This song is in the Jason Robert Brown musical "Parade. " Norbert sang this at a benefit concert called "The Last 10 Years." The concert was to honor the work of Mr. Brown.
A Light in the Dark: As sung by Norbert during the cutting room reading of "Feeling Electric." Listen closely, you may hear a familiar voice singing in the background! That of the one and only Sherie Rene Scott.

Oh man, I met Norbert in December after seeing "Is he dead yet?" he's the sweetest thing. I made a shirt that he loved and signed, and he was so patient when my mom couldn't work the camera! It's amazing how down to earth he is. Gotta love that man.

Just wanted to let you know that the Nicholls Players of Nicholls State University are putting on their second, hopefully annual, student showcase performance. For those of you who I don't know personally, you may want to know that I am the president of the theatre here at Nicholls, but we unfortunatly no longer have a theatre program of study (it was cut due to budget reasons). So, all theatre is now up to the Students and we are starting our Theatrical revolution!
This show is completely student directed, designed, produced, acted, and partially written. It takes on the form of a variety show featuring pieces from beloved theatrical features such as Saturday Night Live, Monty Python, and Broadway musicals. It is a highly funny show and I hope that many of you may be able to make it out to little old Thibodaux to see us perform.
The Show, entitled FUN! A night of monologues, music, and short plays...., will run JAN 18 - 19 at 7:30pm and JAN 20 at 3:00pm. All performances will be held in Talbot Theater on Nicholls campus and admission will be $5.00. Our production is intended for mature audiences (we were told we should say that.....)
If you have any other questions, feel free to write me!
Tony Award-winner Norbert Leo Butz talks about his first reaction on being approached about appearing in a "new" Mark Twain play, Is He Dead?, and about the construction of farce and how David Ives crafted the version of the play currently on Broadway; recalls his classical training at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival; marvels at the good fortune that landed him in the company of Rent only two weeks after moving to New York; considers the experience of appearing in the critically unpopular Harry Connick musical Thou Shalt Not; describes the feeling of playing a character in The Last Five Years based on composer Jason Robert Brown -- with Brown often directly behind him as he sang; recounts the loss of a song for Fiyero when Wicked was out of town in San Francisco and how he worked with Stephen Schwartz in choosing a replacement; and delineates the difference between performing in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with John Lithgow and his successor, Jonathan Pryce. http://www.americantheatrewing.org/downstagecenter/detail/norbert_leo_butz
I saw "Is He Dead?" over New Years weekend and it is AMAZING!! The wit and satire of Mark Twain is perfected by a NLB in drag!! Everyone needs to head to the city check out Norb's play in the palatial Lyceum Theater!!!
The review basically says that Norb saves an otherwise mediocre project!
Even sweeter is the Audio Slideshow narrated by Norb on the main Theater page of the NYTimes online. Check out the interview...Norb talks about the play and growing up with the Mark Twain heritage in St. Louis...
i saw is he dead on wednesday and norbert was great! he is a brillant actor and can make a 90+ year old story come to life. it was really funny that he was in a dress most of the play, but the show was lighthearted. i enjoyed!
I know that this page is not actually his page, but it is fun to pretend and hope that maybe he may check it and see my post:
I just want to say thank you to him. Thanks for all of wonderful talents that he is sharing with the world. Thanks for all of the great music that I love so much. Thanks for making road trips that much more fun as we blast The Last 5 Years in my stereo and sing along. Most of all, thank you for the inspiration. I want so badly to be a performer and it can be a very trying adventure... but when I hear his music, I know that I want to do that! Thanks, Norbert, for all you've done for me even though you had no idea you were doing it. A big fan, Joey
Norb is amazing in Dan In Real Life!!!...Everyone needs to get out to the theaters and support our thespian hero NLB! Catching NLB on the big-screen is reason enough but the movie really is entertaining!
Dan in Real Life was so entertaining. I didn't realize you were in the cast until the open credits started to roll. Such a funny song about Ruthy also.
