Black Jesus was together for several years in the early to mid 1990's. The band went through several lineups, beginning as a 3 piece with Eric Thornton (Apostles, M-80's, and currently with the Villains) on guitar, Chris Korbet (RIP) on bass, and Barry Johnson (RIP) on drums. Rusty Floyd (M-80s, Gods Will, and Front Line) joined as the drummer and played on both Black Lung Records, Jeff Dahls Trash on Demand III, and the Bowling Donut Comp. The band became a 4 piece when JBYRD (The Abscondents and The Lookers) was added as the frontman. When Chris left the band to move out of town, Darbe Warner (The Apostles) joined in. Chris came back and Black Jesus became a 5 piece with Chris playing second guitar. We went through a slew of drummers including Lee Reams (RIP). Sergio Ponce/Sgt. Stash (Candy Snatchers) played in the final lineup. The band stopped playing in 1997. It's difficult to do with everyone so busy on other projects and our bass player living in PA. However, from time to time we get back together to have some fun while we are all still kickin around. We regrouped in 2006 for two shows and we asked Jaime McGuffey (Bottle Babies, and currently with The Villains) to play drums. We also did a show in 2008 that included our last original lineup in honor of Chris and our other fallen friends. Rock On Baby!
