Influences
Those born in Cuba are raised listening to Latin rhythms produced by claves. From these bright clicking sounds, Norlan has expanded his style to include other musical genres like salsa, Son Cubano, Guaracha, Latin Jazz and Cuban folk music. Norlan's music has also been influenced by rap and reggae ever since they were launched in Cuba.
Born and raised in the ghettos of Havana (Cuba), Norlan is known in his country and around the world as a Cuban hip hop music pioneer who is not afraid of testing limits. He is called Norlan "El Misionario" by fans and music professionals. Norlan..s first project before his solo career was Cuban Hip Hop group: Alto Voltaje which he founded 1996.
In 2005, Norlan started his solo career in Europe. He was the first one to bring reggaeton music to Finland and has being carrying ever since proudly his artistical nick name "El Misionario". He released his solo debut album "El Misionario" in 2007. In 2008, Norlan won the title of Best Band at the Ourvision Song Contest in Helsinki and, soon after, signed a record deal with Comrade Publishing. Norlan launched his first single, "Sauna Caliente" which went immediately nro.2 on the Finnish Billboards and stayed there for almost 10 weeks. Norlan is at the moment preparing his 3rd album and is releasing in March 2009 remix single of the hit "Sauna Caliente". Norlan has also introduced two new urban Latin Clubs in Finland which have been much-hyped nation-wide: CUL! Club Urban Latino & Club Sauna Caliente. With his passion towards his musical career and with his club concepts Norlan is continuing his mission to bring the urban latin & caribbean culture known and respected in Scandinavia and all over the world.
