We appreciate all of the bands that applied to perform at this Spring edition of Groovefest. There was no shortage of talent in the applications and we encourage you to apply again in the future. We will begin accepting applications for the Fall 2009 edition of Groovefest in June.

Additionally, we will need groups to play a series of fundraiser shows during the summer to fund the Fall 2009 edition of Groovefest. If you would be interested in performing at one of these shows, please send your contact information to groovefest@gmail.com.

Groovefest was first organized in 1986 by the OU student chapter of the international human rights organization Amnesty International. In the years since, the event has evolved into a local tradition supported by a team of volunteers that includes Norman locals and OU students. Groovefest has always been a community effort and the countless passionate individuals which have volunteered over the years make Groovefest a success. Other local and student organizations have also done their part, including Our Earth, GreenCorn, and the Oklahoma Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.

Every spring and fall, Norman residents and surrounding communities come together to celebrate our freedoms with music and art and raise awareness of Human Rights issues both domestic and international.

So come out to the park; sample local cuisine, browse the work of local artisans, enjoy the music of local musicians, and learn something about Human Rights.

Performing Artists: If you would like to be a performer at the next Groovefest, please follow the instructions on our website at www.groovefest.org to apply! We will begin accepting application for the Fall 2009 Groovefest in June.

“Recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.”
—United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)

Everybody asks for work off on this day and I am forced to stay in OKC. Maybe if I put in now that I will be gone I will get to come this year. I have only missed 2 since I have lived here.
