Set-up and run by two men in their mid-twenties, Rob Allen and Dave Salmon, theirs is a Manchester success story in the best unsung and understated tradition.
Both men still have day jobs, and both are some long way off from being millionaires, but both can take credit for some of Manchester's coolest independent music releases in the last few years, from Stephen Fretwell to the much-tipped Pioneers.
Yet their coolest achievement is how they've done this without any real masterplan. Rob and Dave are just like any real music fans - obsessed with new bands and going to gigs. As a result, Northern Ambition has earned a reputation for being the most approachable and least business-driven record label in Manchester.

Unless talk of a minibus crops up from now until then, we either get the 17.49, or the 18.19 from Victoria to Halifax. Victorias the best option, at Piccadilly and Oxford you get changes, and it takes double the time. Oh yeah, and Danny Ad if your being nosey and reading this, get some more bombs! F
