Influences
Our influences are No Depression artists like Son Volt, Whiskey Town & Uncle Tupelo, timeless bands like the Clash, Johnny Cash & the Who and little known bands like Buffalo Tom, House of Freaks, and the Old 97s are among the many other bands influenced our sound.
Following the example of Kerouac, Sir Hillary, Armstrong, the Donner Party and other adventurous souls in search of the glory of exploration the Northern Whiskey Syndicate set out on the weed choked trail to tell a few good stories and find a new place in the musical milieu...and maybe have a drink along the way.
Stories long forgotten or oft-ignored - the death rattle of a ghost town, the plaintive howl of the train pulling away west never to return, the whiskeyman's bawl at closing time, the tramp and shuffle of a thousand souls building you a better Buick.
The Northern Whiskey Syndicate's songs speak of lost hope and redemption, love found and love imagined, miles to go , bottles empty, and all the possibilites just beyond your front gate.
With a steady hand and a steely glare the NWS forge their sound from a crucible of everyman rock, hillbilly blues, and punk at its most righteous.
With these tools in hand, a good pair of shoes, and a little snakebite medicine they're setting out to blaze into the uncharted territories and humbly offer two CDs - "Northern Whiskey Syndicate" and "Volstead '33" (in honor of the repeal of the Volstead Act in 1933 that ended Prohibition.) as a personal invitation to join them at the bar and stage of your favorite local watering hole for an evening of salvation, sin, and everything in between.
