Folk-Celtic music mixed with speed/epic/power/melodic death metal
Northland has its roots in Badalona in 2004 when Pau Murillo founded a viking/melodic death metal band with a few friends of him. The band broke up due to personal problems of the members.
After a short time, Pau joined another band and suggested to give the band a more death/folk orientation. The band agreed and Pau became the leader of the band and composed themes and lyrics for it.
A long time after that, the band was disolved unanimously owning to problems between the members of the band but Pau announced that he would go on with his music.
Pau wanted to set up a new band and turned to some of the members from his old bands, so the new lineup included: Pau (guitar & lead vocals), Cristian (drums), Jonathan (keyboards) and Sergi (guitar).
The band though about their future and every member cotributed with diferent ideas. In the end they decided to search for a violinist, because it would make their music sound more melodic and nearer to folk and Guzmán joined the band.
The band was looking for a bassist since their begining unsuccessfully, until Eric Vila, a friend of Pau, decided to join Northland.
Cristian had to leave the band due to personal reasons and was quickly replaced by Dani, the current Northland drummer.
With this new formation, the band made itself known by playing in many festivals such as Kanya!!! (Barcelona), Death over Christmas Fest (Vigo) and other small concert halls in Barcelona and its environs.
They edited their first demo “Freezing sadness”, which was very well recieved within their audience.
Sergi, Guzmán and Eric left the band due to personal affairs.
Pau M. and Dani went on with the band and found new musicians, which could fill the gap left by their old mates. The new and current members are: Pol (keyboards), Pau (violin), Alex (guitar) and Yoli (bass). They arrived just in time to play in the last two concerts of the band: Kanya!!! A la Capsa (Prat del Llobregat) and as support band for Norther in Mephisto (Barcelona).
At present the band is working hard getting ready for their upcoming concerts, composing new songs and thinking already about the studio album, which will hopefully come out around April 2009.
Northland tiene sus origenes en Badalona sobre el año 2004 cuando Pau Murillo, junto a una serie de amigos, decide montar un grupo con aires Viking y Death melódico, que debido a ciertos problemas se disuelve totalmente.
Tras un corto periodo de tiempo, Pau, encuentra una banda en la cual se integra rápidamente, y propone hacer el estilo que hacia con su anterior banda solo que decantándose mucho más por el ambiente Death/Folk.
El grupo acepta y Pau toma las riendas de la banda, componiendo así todos los que serian los temas del grupo, que podéis escuchar aquí mismo.
Al cabo de un largo tiempo, y de diferentes problemas internos en el grupo, este se decide disolver por votación casi unánime, pese que Pau anunció que él seguiría adelante con su música.
Después de un tiempo Pau anuncia que vuelve a la carga, en busca de nuevos músicos, debido a ciertos inconvenientes decide acudir a ex-miembros de sus anteriores bandas, en los que podía confiar y así entran Cristian a la batería, Jonathan a los teclados y Sergi a las guitarras.
Tras meditarlo mucho en la banda, y aportar distintas ideas entre todos, para lo que sería su futuro, se decide buscar un violinista para incrementar el toque Folk de las canciones, y así aparece Guzmán con su Violín.
Durante todo este tiempo se estaba buscando un bajista, pero sin éxito alguno, hasta que un día Eric Vila, un colega de Pau, decidió unirse a Northland con su bajo. Vino el verano y por motivos personales Cristian tuvo que abandonar la banda, quedándose Northland sin batería. Pero este fué substituido en poco tiempo por Dani, actual batería de la banda.Con esta formación el grupo se empezó a dar a conocer por tocando en festivales como Kanya!!!(BCN), Death Over Christmas Fest (Vigo) y tocando en pequeñas salas de Barcelona y cercanías, editando la primera demo del grupo "FREEZING SADNESS" con muy buena respuesta del público.
Pero las cosas se volvieron a complicar y Sergi, Guzmán y Eric abandonaron el grupo por falta de motivación. Tanto Pau como Pol y Dani, han seguido adelante con la banda y en cuestión de poco tiempo han sido capaces de conseguir llenar el vacío producido por la despedida de los tres compañeros de batalla.
Aquí entran Alex a la guitarra, Pau al violín y Yolanda al bajo, justo a tiempo para volver a la andada a lo que conciertos se refiere, tocando en la VII edición del Kanya!!! esta vez en la Capsa (Prat del Llobregat) y compartiendo escenario con NORTHER en la sala Mephisto.
Actualmente el grupo está trabajando duramente en la preparación de sus próximos conciertos, las nuevas canciones y el siguiente trabajo de estudio, que seguramente verá la luz sobre mediados de abril del 2009.
