About me:

North Mutator is a drawing/art collective based in Toronto, Canada. It's named after a mysterious entity created by Mark Connery and Jesse Huisken (the name was originally used as the title of a group art show held at This Ain't The Rosedale Library, Toronto, June 2001). Currently, North Mutator centers around the artists William A. Davison, Sherri Lyn Higgins, and Kerry Wright Zentner but the group also includes other friends who contribute on an occasional basis (past collaborators have included Steve Venright, Dale Zentner, Jesse Huisken, Peter Kalyniuk, Greg Kalyniuk, Daccia Bloomfield, Enrique Lechuga, Dominic Tetrault, Michelangelo Iaffaldano, Matt Waldron, Greg Scharpen, Dahye Kim). The group remains open to collaboration with other artists and groups.

Surrealist ideas and techniques have been a major influence on the North Mutator collective (see www.recordism.com). The group employs collective art-making techniques exclusively. The main method involves passing drawings around in a circle with each participant adding new elements until it is decided collectively that the drawings are finished. The group has also employed the classic surrealist "exquisite corpse" method and has experimented with collectively written texts, detourned comics, and other collaborative approaches. In recent months, the addition of collage has become of major interest to the group. Other artistic influences include underground and experimental comics/cartooning, the work of numerous visual artists and illustrators, and "visual culture" in general (popular and otherwise).

North Mutator has been drawing together on a semi-regular basis since March 2003.
