Grupo estrela do norte /north star capoeira angola ,is the realization of Capoeira Angola in North America as learned and taught from our beloved teacher Iuri Santos.A native Brasilian from Salvador, Bahia ,Iuri understands the principles of capoeira are not exclusive to the art itself but rather belong to all peoples of struggle, with this in mind ,the foundation of our group is laid to enrich and empower people.
Through the learning process of Capoeira Angola one develops the self control ,discipline , humbleness,commitment ,strength and ferocity to accomplish any of ones needs to live within their spiritual nature.
Capoeira Angola is the product of the relentless african spirit refusing to accept the hellish conditions of slavery in all it's forms.Developed in the slave plantations in Brasil by a mixture of different West African cultures.Combining elements of dance ,martial arts music ,storytelling and spirituality ,the capoeiristas decieved the portuguese slave owners into thinking this dance was a harmless form of passing time while in truth it was a deadly martial art waiting for the right time, and.....BUYAKA , freedom was only as far away as the slave masters head was from their foot..

Thanks Tadpole. I've been in North Carolina all summer but I've been training my capoeira a couple of hours a day. Can't wait to see all you guys when I get back!
