* A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THAT ATTENDED THIS YEARS FESTIVAL*
SEE YOU NEXT YEAR 20TH -27TH SEPTEMBER
The North Wales International Music Festival was founded by William Mathias in 1972. The aim of the Festival was to bring the finest international artists to North Wales.
St Asaph Cathedral was chosen by William Mathias as the venue for the Festival as he believed it had the finest acoustic in North Wales. This has been confirmed throughout the years by musicians and audiences alike.
Over the years there have been many artists who have played regularly as part of the Festival---and the BBC Welsh Orchestra ( NOW the BBC National Orchestra of Wales) played at the first Festival in 1972.
The Festival also promotes concerts for children. Live Music Now! has provided some wonderful concerts over the years and will feature again this year.
Welcome to a year of celebrations. This year we celebrate the Festival's 35th year. We also mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sir Edward Elgar, and we welcome the premier British vocal group the King's Singers, themselves celebrating their 40th anniversary.
Yet again, we are delighted with the extensive list of world class performers we have appearing and we anticipate many memorable and magical concerts. We continue to build on our educational work with a number of workshops for young people: for harpists with Catrin Finch; for string players culminating in a performance with The Orchestra of the Swan; for percussionists; and for young brass players with members of the BBC NOW . I am sure you will agree that these are a very important and exciting part of the Festival's continued development. All are open to the public and everyone is welcome.
Once again our resident ensemble, Ensemble Cymru, will be playing in different locations within the community and their 'Beatrix Potter' Children and Family Concerts with narration and dance promise to be a true highlight. A warm welcome awaits everyone. We hope you will join us for a feast of wonderful music!
