Great Live Music Made by Great Live People, DJ's who want to make you move. And you can dance too.
Body Music (formerly No Selector) is a weekly event held at Bembe, one of Brooklyn’s most unique venues, on the corner of South 6th Street and Berry in Williamsburg. No Selector has been going strong at Bembe since its inception in November of 2005, courtesy of co-founders Guy Licata, Abe Seiferth, Evan Baggs, and Jesse Mann.
Jesse currently holds down duties as the night's resident DJ, creative director, and musical curator.
The idea of Body Music is to bring together the live element with that of the DJ in unique ways. Talented local musicians play a variety ranging from funk and soul to afro beat, dub, and calypso. The further addition of some of NYC’s best DJs playing everything from Latin and jazz to disco and house, makes for a truly eclectic night of music. As live percussion and bass play alongside DJ-led tracks often in tandem, something new and exciting is created every Sunday night. Past guests have included The Dub Trio, along with members of Fischerspooner, LCD Soundsystem, Escort, and The Pimps of Joytime, amongst countless others.

I've put together a night of runk and fock music on May 14, 2007. I'm thinking of calling this the "It's After the Last Days; Don't You Know That Yet?" Party, with a respectful nod to the incomparable Sun Ra. Or maybe just: "Revivalution."
Anyway, come join us for a fantastic evening with four stellar bands: Ultrafine is first up at 8pm with their new wave sounds, subsonic bass, and chanteuse vocals for your earhole. Think the Brazilian Girls and Kudu with a splash of Gwen Stefani. Then, catch Mother Flux spreading a love remedy for your blues and ushering in the revival (without the fire and brimstone). After us, at 9:50pm, Ancient Soul takes over. Their sound harkens back to when rock in the vein Sabbath, Maiden, Dio, etc. reigned supreme. If you dig Wolfmother and Priestess, you'll love this band. Closing out the night at 10:45pm is NathalieD and Benoir with their stream of consciousness laptological soulstew.
Come early and stay the whole night. You'll go home fully rocked out. And we all need that on the regular.

The renegade artist Oscar Wilde wrote that "Music is the art which is most nigh to tears and memory." The poet Percy Bysshe Shelley also wrote about how music echoes within the mind when he wrote: "Music, when soft voices die, vibrates in the memory."
Please join me as I my music reverberates to keep from crying at our next show. We're playing in Billyburg this time around.
