No Shame is a weekly open performance venue for original and risky
works of theatre. Scripts arrive up to an hour before show time.
They're cast, rehearsed, and put on stage in front of a live audience
an hour later.
If you're a writer, come to the theatre by 10pm with typed scripts and
find the person taking order. If you're an actor, come to the theatre
by 10pm and tell people you're there to act, and you'll act. It's that
simple.
Anything goes: Comedy sketches, dramatic monologues, ten second
blackouts, songs, dance pieces, rants, dadaist constructions,
serialized epics, corrupt magicians, chainsaw juggling, puppet abuse
and things that we're not even sure exist yet.
The only rules are that
pieces must be short (under five minutes), original, and can't damage
the space or audience…physically. Mental and emotional damage are
highly encouraged.
No Shame is a chance to experience 15 works of art that you've never
seen before and probably will never see again. Plus it's cheap, it's
fun, and there's beer. Nothing else in LA has those three things going
for it.
Since starting in a pickup truck in Iowa back in 1986 (it's true), No
Shame has launched the careers of actors including John Leguizamo,
Camryn Manheim, and Toby Huss, and writers such as Rebecca Gillman,
Naomi Wallace, and Jeff Goode.
It has spread to more than a dozen
cities in the U.S., been the cover story of major magazines, won
awards, and insulted many.

A controversial new play by a student in the Playwright's Lab at Hollins University, Clinton A. Johnston, will be presented at Mill Mountain Theatre from March 13th -16th. The production, performed by a professional group of actors from Charter Theatre of Washington DC, takes you on a touching, thoughtful, and hysterically funny tour of the state of Blackness in America. For one night, no matter where you are from or what you look like, you get to be African-American. Don't miss it!
Ya know, you and your page are what MySpace is all about.
