Bhikku's Interests
|
| General | I enjoy table-top RPGs both for the social aspect and the creative element; anything that exercises the imagination is good news to me. I enjoy cooking (though i'm too lazy to do much cooking at home) and I draw sometimes; a few of my lesser doodles are posted here. I'm also getting back to writing again, a little bit. It's a nice thing. Plus, when I can (which is rarely), I love to make short, weird films. | | Music | Artists: Tricky, System of a Down, Voltaire, Violent Femmes, Boiled in Lead, Muse, Rasputina;
Genres: random electronica like Moby, Messiah[21st Century Jesus], Juno Reactor, SuperPope;
some industrial like Wumpscut, older NIN, Ministry;
a lot of punk like the Ramones, the Sex Pistols, the Misfits, and many of the genre's offshoots (anything from the Cure to the AquaBats)
Favorite Albums: The Crow soundtrack, the Tangerine Dream soundtrack for Legend, Yat-Kha's Aldyn Dashka.
| | Movies | Favorites include Out of Sight, Once Upon A Time in Mexico, L.A. Story, Toys, and Heat.
I'm a sucker for good fantasy like Legend, Labyrinth, and Willow.
I mostly like my scifi really dark: Pitch Black, Riddick, Dark City, 12 Monkeys.
I like horror movies, but I'm pretty picky: The Descent, the original Hellraiser and the original Haunting are some favorites. I do have a soft spot for zombies. Also, I was pleased with Rob Zombie's take on Halloween.
I enjoy other films that use elements of fantasy and horror, like Constantine, the original Crow, and Hellboy.
| | Television | These days I mostly watch my TV shows on DVD. Favorites include Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Invader Zim, Farscape, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Red Dwarf, the Simpsons, Venture Brothers, & Azumanga Daioh. Once in a while I'll catch something on Adult Swim, like Robot Chicken or Harvy Birdman. Recently introduced to House and Dead Like Me, very pleasing. | | Books | the Black Jewels trilogy, by Anne Bishop; Resurrection Man, by Sean Stewert;
Snow Crash, and The Diamond Age, by Neal Stephenson;
the Noble Dead series by Barb & J.C. Hendee;
the Lankhmar stories of Fritz Leiber;
VALIS & Radio Free Albemuth, by Philip K. Dick;
He Died With a Falafel in His Hand, by John Birmingham;
the Sandman series & various short works by Neil Gaiman;
Night Watch and Day Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko;
I've recently discovered a fondness for just about anything by Greg Rucka, Jen Van Meter, Steven Niles, and Eric S. Trautmann. Brandon Jerwa is looking good too! | | Heroes | Adrienne Genise. Gabi. Monte Cook. Gabe & Tycho. |

Bhikku's Blurbs |
About me:
I collect nicknames - I don't know if that's common for people named "John," but I wouldn't be surprised. The nickname I use here, Bhikku, is pronounced "BEE-koo," and it's the most personal nickname I've got. In select circles, I'm known as "Duckie," which is of course short for "Not A Duck." If that makes any sense to you, it's far too late, and your doom is assured. I'm sorry.
I recently decided I'm not taking good care of myself, and decided to try it. I think it's off to a good start.
I hate writing about myself because I'm really more interested in other people. I can tell about myself in person, sure, because I can see how my interlocutor reacts and shift focus accordingly, and discover things about them. It's not so much that I like people - i like individuals, but i'm fascinated by people.
I don't pay much attention to MySpace anymore, so you're better off finding me on Facebook if you need my attention. I'm contemplating getting a blog or Vox or something. I also have a habit of vanishing from the web for months at a time. Nobody knows why.

Who I'd like to meet:
Whoever it was that put the bop in the bop-sha-bop-sha-bop, as well as the ram in the ram-a-lam-a-ding-dong.
Other than that, I like goths, geeks, and gamers. I also want to meet Warren Ellis, John S. Hall, and S. John Ross. I'd like to meet Neil Gaiman again, because he was groovy.
