Nothinghunger began in Auckland, New Zealand in 1999 as a primitive tape-collage project influenced by old industrial acts like Throbbing Gristle, SPK, NON, Whitehouse etc. Initially a solo creation of Jael Edwards, the addition of Alexis Porter to the lineup saw the begining of more sophisticated instrumentation and a move towards the addition of influences from bombastic classical music and black Metal. This line up released the "Entertente Kunst/Degenerate art" Ep, pressed onto the same disc as the duo's BM recordings as Black Harvest. This release became something of a cult item in the (admittedly minute) NZ underground scene, and secured some performances at various gothic/industrial events around NZ.
In 2001 Porter ceased his involvement in the project, and shortly thereafter Edwards moved to Melbourne, Australia, prompting a period of dormancy for Nothinghunger. This is largely attributed to lack of access to equipment and a 4 year stint as vocalist for Melbourne Black/Death metal act Accursed. The "Lycanthropic Hate Magik" demo and "Weapon be thy name" full-length feature vocals and production by Edwards. The forthcoming full-length of Melbourne Doom/Back band Exercitus also features his vocals throughout.
With the end of Accursed, work on Nothinghunger, although never totaly abandoned, took on a new focus, and the forthcoming album "Decline and fall" is nearing completion. This work shows the synthesis of the disparate influences which gave it birth, combining powerful neo-classical arangements with elements of power-electronics and dark ambient music. The Initial release run will be limited largely to promotional use, with the aim of securing label support to licence a full print run.
