The disgraced one-time NFL superstar serving prison time for funding an illegal dog-fighting ring is primed to do public-service ads for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals upon his release later this month. According to three people with knowledge of the matter, the proposed endorsement is part of a comprehensive PR scheme aimed at rehabilitating the quarterback. People with knowledge of his comeback plan said it will also include mea culpa TV interviews, PSAs and charitable donations to other animal-rights organizations (or perhaps the formation of his own foundation), along with the possibility of working with PETA. STOP Long Animal Transports
Today, too many animals are transported under unacceptable conditions on European highways.
The most important issue is the duration of the transports. Current EU legislation allows for animals to be transported for several days. This has to be changed. Live animals for slaugther should never be transported for more than eight hours.
Support 8hours. Our goal is to collect 1,000,000 signatures, something EU politicians will not be able to ignore.
The O2 Arena in London is planning to feature a stage production of Ben Hur in 2009 using 100 animals including horses, camels, donkeys, hens, falcons and eagles. Inevitably this will involve distress to the animals through training and temporary housing at an arena not designed for animals. In addition they will be exposed to the noise and lights of the production itself. The show is touring across Europe and performing for 1-3 nights at each venue, requiring the animals to be transported for long periods.
