Fear Pain Desparation

God allows all humans to experience these emotions,
which are survival instincts and are the best educators.
Fear properly felt heightens Awareness,
yet improper fear can keep a person bound or paranoid.
Pain is an indicator that allows us to know when we've reached a limit.
Despair and Hopelessness can bring us to a place of Willingness and Open Mindedness or drive one insane... When we find ourselves in such states,
we realize on some level that we need to change our actions and behaviors.
When drugs and alcohol could no longer alleviate such feelings, or made them worse, we seek strength and peace elsewhere. We seek it in relationships,
diverse substances, or activities...
   ...When these fail, IF we survive them; we may give this "higher power" thing a try,
and we're open to suggestion. We have come to The End of the Road and found that it is a Dead End at that. Our own ways and thinking have gotten us nothing but heartache, misery, and more trouble than we'd care to fully express. For some, the Love and Care we find in the Fellowships of Recovery is a warm, inviting light, and for some inexpressible reason we are drawn toward it. But some already wounded and weary newcomers might flee if some insensitive, hypocrit asshole offends them... I hate to see it happen, and sadly it happens too often. Other newcomers finding that their wounds of despair have begun to heal, think that maybe since their lives have improved, they no longer need to attend quite so many meetings (which i too have done) or none at all. The Restoration process has only yeilded its first fruits, but we dont think we need to work as hard to cultivate more rewards, and as usual for us, we settle for less. We forget about the desolation, destruction
