| About Nouveau Quartette |
|
Our band came together in 2006 via classes taken at The Old Town School Of Folk Music in Chicago. We are all interested in the gypsy jazz swing of mid 1930's Paris. The major exponent and influence from that period is Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. Their use of string instruments instead of brass was a real break through in jazz ensemble playing for that era. The sound they created has tremendous appeal to this day. We can never be Django and Stephane so we try to make the music our own by a diverse repetoire, not just Django. We play Monk, Fats, Duke, Django, Cole, George, Benny, Chick and more. Maybe Jimi someday too.
