  • Bio

Nova Rex was born in 1985 in Ontario Canada with guitarist Jp Cervoni. He was just off of the road with Buddy Miles (Hendrix/Santana)and having rock star dreams of his own, when they were contacted by a agency located in Florida USA. All about sun and fun, the group hauled to the sunshine state. After being one of the biggest premier acts and performing sold out shows, the band put its talent in the studio to record its self-titled CD "Nova Rex", featuring the hit single "Turn it Up (Loud)". In 1987, still with stars in their eyes and searching for the all elusive recording contract, the band headed to the rock capital of the World Hollywood, CA. The sunset strip was a comfortable fit for the Rex boys as it was the stomping grounds for many serious musicians. Shortly after arriving in CA the Rex boys' style attracted them a major management deal and they were pursued by many labels as well as the hot chicks of Hollywood! Rick Frio of MCA Records said "This band has the same energy and drive as Van Halen." At this point, the band rerecorded "Nova Rex" "Turn it up(loud) with the new hit single "Bring the house down". The band went on to make a video and landed endorsements with Ibanez. Nova Rex could be seen on the Sunset Strip with acts including Warrant, Odin, and Pretty Boy Floyd. The band was feeling good with their progression when suddenly, the Seattle grunge movement was on. A lot of bands scrambled. That's when Kenny Wilkerson, the bass player for Rex, went home to Indiana for the Holidays. On a whim, he took the NR music to a local radio station with the power ballad "Think of me" and the phones just blew up! By the end of his 2 week holiday, the song was being played in heavy rotation with no less dozen stations with heavy phones. So with the LA scene coming to an end, the Rex boys went into the studio in 92 to cut their next release "Blow me away" and headed to Indy dressed in leather and a vengeance, with the hopes of new prospects in an untappped market. The release received numerous awards and brought the band widespread notoriety. With so much action on radio and tv the band had no problem securing a Ansheuser-Busch sponsorship, which in turn gave them a lot of high profile gigs across the country with acts including Cheap Trick, Quiet Riot, Kix, Jackyl and Brother Cain. In May of 1994 the band released "Ain't Easy Being Cheesy" which was surrounded by Major media blitz from billboards, store displays and ad campaigns on FOX and MTV affiliates. With a what else can I do? attitude, and still fighting the Seattle scene, NR brought in producer Mark Wolfson to co-produce the 1996 "Violent America" CD. Finally, after a long hard battle with on again off again front men, the band relocated back to FL in 1999 where they made an intense NIN vibe record "New Kings", co-produced and co-written by Fabrizio Grossi (Vai) featuring the Single "Seven". It was released nationally by Quantum Records and went for radio with bands like Push Monkey, Buck Cherry and Lit. Now 10 years later and with the fans support Nova Rex will rise again. A new king is born, with their "Greatest Hits" CD sporting 15 classic tracks from there first 5 albums and their signature style new hit "Break Away" Available on Quantum Records. Enjoy and Rex & Roll!........
