'How They were Taken Away So Easily',Oil on Birch by Tara McPherson

From one of my favorite poets:

On the calm black wave where the stars are sleeping the white Ophelia floats like a great lily. Floats very slowly, lying in her long veils… --Far off in the woods there are hunters’ calls. It’s already more than a thousand years that sad Ophelia passes, a white phantom, on the long black river; More than a thousand years that her gentle craziness murmurs her romantic story to the evening breeze. The wind kisses her breasts and arranges her great veils, cradled softly by the waves, in a halo around her; the shivering willows weep on her shoulder, the reeds bend above her wide dreaming forehead. The rumpled lotuses sigh around her; she awakes sometimes, in a sleeping alder, some nest from which a little shiver of wing escapes: --a mysterious chant falls from the golden stars. O pale Ophelia! beautiful as snow! Yes you died, child, carried away by a river! --It’s that the winds coming down from the mountains of Norway talked to you quietly of bitter freedom; it’s that a gust, twisting your long hair, carried strange sounds to your dreaming mind; your heart heard the singing of nature in the wails of the tree and the sighs of the nights; It’s that the voice of the crazy seas, immense groan, broke your child’s breast, too human and too sweet; it’s that one morning in April, a handsome pale cavalier, a poor fool, sat mute at your knees! Heaven! Love! Freedom! What a dream, O poor foolish girl! You melted into him like a snow in the fire: Your great visions strangled your words --and terrible infinity appalled your blue eye! --And the poet says that by starlight you come looking at night for the flowers you gather, and that he saw on the water, lying in her long veils, the white Ophelia floating like a great lily.

--Arthur Rimbaud (1854-1891)

You are The Moon

Hope, expectation, Bright promises.

The Moon is a card of magic and mystery - when prominent you know that nothing is as it seems, particularly when it concerns relationships. All logic is thrown out the window.

The Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition.

Music

By the cold and religious we were taken in hand Shown how to feel good and told to feel bad. Tongue tied and terrified we learned how to pray Now our feelings run deep and cold as the clay. And strung out behind us the banners and flags Of our possible pasts lie in tatters and rags.

I will ask no questions

While I do my thing in the background

About me:

Hatred knocked at the door and love answered to find no one there.

Shiori Matsumoto

As the night falls, the moon shyly rises from the east casting a spell upon earthly gardens.

I am strongly EMOTIONAL, and emotionally STRONG.

I'm a very open-minded person who likes to have fun and enjoy all aspects of life, from Darkness to Light. I believe strongly in honesty and in being yourself no matter what. I love the Moon, Partyin', Audrey Hepburn, Surrealism, bats, elephants, exploring world religions, (Hinduism, Buddhism & Paganism especially,) finding new Music and Art, and the simple things like trees and lingering glances and WoRdS. I love Beauty, I love ARt,I love everything that is real and everything pretend that comes from THAT emotion.

He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable love-of-country stance, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action! It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder.

— Albert Einstein

Words to learn to live by:

Today is what you have to work with. Today is when you can actually give life to your dreams.Today you can put those things you've been meaning to do into real, effective, fulfilling action. Today you will experience how good it is to go beyond merely planning, dreaming and intending, and to bring those beautiful plans to life.

Remedios Varo

My Birthday falls on the original Pagan Halloween, All Saints' Day:

All Saints' Day

The little men, little women, sad creatures,
today they strew flowers blue and red
on their graves, barely lit.
They act like poor dolls in the face of Death.
O! How they seem fearful and humble here
like shadows that lurk behind the black bushes.
In the autumn wind wails the cry of the unborn,
And one sees lights bobbing wildly.
The sighing of lovers dies off into the breeze
and there rots the mother with her child.
The living dance looks unreal
and strangely scattered to the evening wind.
Their life is so confused, full of dim troubles.
God take pity on the ladies Hell and Torment
and on this hopeless wailing for the dead.
Lonely wandering silent in the starry hall.

--Georg Trakl (1887-1914)

As soon as the idea of the flood had subsided, A hare stopped in the clover and the swinging flower bells, and said its Prayer through the spider's web to the rainbow. The precious stones were hiding, and already the flowers were beginning to look up. The butchers' blocks rose in the dirty main street, and boats were Hauled down to the sea, piled high as in pictures. Blood flowed in Bluebeard's house, in the slaughterhouses, in the circuses, where the seal of God whitened the windows. Blood and milk flowed. Beavers set about building. Coffee urns let out smoke in the bars. In the large house with windows still wet, children in mourning looked at exciting pictures. A door slammed. On the village square the child swung his arms around,And was understood by the weather vanes and the steeple cocks everywhere, under the pelting rain. Madame X installed a piano in the Alps. Mass and first communions were celebrated at the hundred thousand altars of the cathedral. The caravans departed. And the Hotel Splendide was built in the chaos of ice and polar night. Since then, the Moon has heard jackals yelping in the thyme deserts, and eclogues in wooden shoes growling in the orchard. Finally, in the violet budding grove, Eucharis told me spring was here.- Gush forth, waters of the pond. Foam, pour over the bridge and over the woods. Black shrouds and organs, lighting and thunder, rise up and spread everywhere. Waters and sorrows, rise up and bring back the Floods. For ever since they have gone - oh! The precious stones buried and the opened flowers!- we have been bored! The Queen, the witch lighting her coal in the earthen pot, will never tell us what she knows and what we shall never know.

~Yves Tanguy

"There is not one glance that does not hide a secret, a story one that is not an answer, an appeal, an explanation. Glances so clear & pure, their depths muddied with stains & streaks: human algae and detritus. Bulging, blue-green and gummy eyes, voiceless glances, others illuminated, glances that know how to hate and scorn, loving and confiding glances, glances that reveal one goal, one wish,
glances veiled in blood
by desire."...

'A little Night Music,

*Dorothea Tanning*

Then as now the decibels of nature can crush an artist's brain. I have seen it happen. So I lock the door and paint interiors. Great events. A white and dark picture would muffle the red world outside. Big bare rooms with white frozen figures, like Sodom and Gomorrah. There is opalescent light and velvet dark. Isn't that the artist's best joy, to control light? To rival the sun and moon, to turn their logic upside down with brushes and paint and monstrous egos? I am here.

The word "om" is actually an ancient symbol with an indefinite meaning. It is often described as encompassing all potentialities and possibilities, and the moment when petty affairs are set aside for more universal motivations.

well.... i mean this is a city that is huge and is slowly undergoing a renaissance.  i find the decay more interesting than distressing.  if detroit was funded more by the government, then many of these homes could be restored to former glory.
