A punch in the arm from Dave Grohl, a thumbs up from Josh Homme, and a quiet nod from Jon Paul Jones, just a few of the reasons why The Novocaines are fast becoming one of the hottest independent bands in the world. Add to that their 89 seconds of complete balls to the wall song Cup of Coffee, which was originally unearthed on Australian national network Triple J, before being selected for a major scene in the worldwide hit movie Scream 4, and an electrifying live show that leaves punters and reviewers alike in complete awe and you have all the ingredients for a superstardom success story. While the band are all in their early 20's, The Novocaines are no strangers to the road, having already performed multiple national tours over the past couple of years and a USA tour this year to play three amazing shows at South By South West in Austin, Texas and a further three shows in Los Angeles, California. In Australia, The Novocaines have opened for several international artists including Them Crooked Vultures, Spinnerette, and Japan's Shonen Knife, as well as the who's who of great Australian acts including You Am I, Grinspoon, Jebediah, British India, Philadelphia Grand Jury, The Vasco Era, Kram and Calling All Cars. The band has furthermore taken on the stages of the Perth Big Day Out, Playground Weekender and Southbound festivals. Great reviews of The Novocaines live performances began rolling in after every show. Xpress Magazine writes "it's virtually impossible not to watch The Novocaines. These fellas have enough on-stage energy to power a city block; Time Off Magazine says "Bred singer and born frontman Corey Marriott gives it as good as the greats, prancing around like vintage Mick Jagger with the same ability to hold an emotionally filthy note." Drum Magazine writes "They move on stage like the bastard children of Iggy Pop and Pete Townsend… A towering inferno of rock'n'roll soulfire..." 2009 was a pivotal year for The Novocaines. The band was unearthed by radio station Triple J after releasing the track Cup Of Coffee as a vinyl single through Ampersonic Music/MGM. Soon after, they released the Ragdoll EP to a sold out crowd at Amplifier Bar, Perth's quintessential indie venue, selling through the initial pressings of the CD within weeks. The band then signed to Premier Artists, one of Australia's largest booking agents. 2010 started in a massive way for the young band. Highlights included a crowd rousing performance supporting Them Crooked Vultures at Challenge Stadium, Perth and a coveted slot on the Perth Big Day Out. The Novocaines also performed at The Playground Weekender in NSW and continued touring, supporting international acts Spinnerette and Aussie legends Grinspoon. On the back of this success The Novocaines headed back into Ampersonic Studios with Tokyo based Canadian producer Alan Brey (The Dirty Secrets, Lumiis) and recorded material for their Courtesy Eventually EP. The first single, Lovers Teeth, was mixed by Nick Terry (Franz Ferdinand, Klaxons, The Libertines) and attracted international interest from several major labels. The second single, Adhere To, was quickly added to high rotation on Triple J. More touring followed with support slots for Australian legends You Am I and a national tour with Jebediah. The band charged into 2011 playing several festivals including Southbound, Perth Big Day Out and South By South West in Austin, Texas. Whilst touring the USA in March 2011, The Novocaines track "Cup Of Coffee" was selected for a major scene in the hit movie Scream 4. Interest in the band buzzed into overdrive and by the time the boys hit Los Angeles the cream of American A&R reps were turning up to see the band perform their raucous live set. Firmly now on the radar of several major American labels including Interscope, American Records, Atlantic and EMI/Capitol and with a couple of big league producers involved, The Novocaines are on the cusp of international success. With new material overflowing and more releases needed fast, the band forged ahead along the independent route and in May 2011 work began on The Novocaines official debut album. Tracking with Alan Brey has begun at Ampersonic Studio's in Leederville, the heart of Perth's inner city musical hub. The album, as yet untitled, is due for release in late 2011. The first single from the album, "Summer Waiting" is being mixed by Nick Terry at Malabar Studios in Norway. The forecast for 2011 and beyond…..

Press Quotes

Xpress Magazine writes “It’s virtually impossible not to watch the The Novocaines. These fellas have enough on-stage energy to power a city block”

Time Off Magazine says “Bred singer and born frontman Corey Marriott gives it as good as the greats, prancing around like vintage Mick Jagger with the same ability to hold an emotionally filthy note.”

Drum Magzine writes "They move on stage like the bastard children of Iggy Pop and Pete Townsen, a towering inferno of rock'n'roll soulfire"

Corey Marriot has this total lead singer aura about him and the band play some outstanding tunes to make The Novocaines a dead set must see for anybody’s bucket list. – The Au Review Southbound festival Jan 1st 2011,

It is a mark of an excellent live band when you turn up to their show expecting nothing less than to be blown away and they delivered in spades. - Perth Bands Review Southbound festival Jan 1st 2011

“Bred singer and born frontman Corey Marriott gives it as good as the greats, prancing around like vintage Mick Jagger with the same ability to hold an emotionally filthy note.” Time Off Magazine supporting Jebediah The Zoo Brisbane December 8, 2010

“Chemistry like this is beyond words, and beyond amazing. This show is probably the best I’ve seen them play this year. They owned the small stage, and the growing crowd. I’ve never been disappointed by their live show, but this set was incredible. See The Novocaines or quit live music, join a convent, and regret your life choices.” The AU Review supporting Jebediah Annandale Hotel Sydney December 9, 2010

“frontman Corey Marriott’s big vocals and Iggy Pop-School-Of-Posturing stage presence make for a formidable rock performance.” Rave Magazine supporting Jebediah Adelaide Dec 10, 2010

The Novocaines were the perfect aperitif to the most hyped band in recent memory." – Fasterlouder.com.au jan 2010 supporting Them Crooked Vultures

"Thanks to frontman Corey Marriott's manic dance moves and the bands very contagious energy, The Novocaines definitely won over the discerning crowd and gave themselves a boost heading into a big year for the young band" - Drum Magazine Jan 2010 supporting Them Crooked Vultures

The Novocaines kicked off with a powerhouse performance filled with lively stage antics from charismatic singer Corey Marriott and the thunderous drumming of Liam Young. Songs like Lately, Cup Of Coffee, and set closer Ragdoll Blues had Marriot covering the stage like iggy pop with a harmonica, before some quieter moments showcasing The Novocaines harmonic diversity with the bands new single, Something To Someone. - Xpress Mag 18/3/10

“These Guys have enough on-stage energy to power a city block” – Xpress Mag 2009

“The Novocaines looked like the love child of the Ramones and David Bowie with the music to back it up.” – Fasterlouder 2009

“The Novocaines , Faarrkyeah! – Drum Media 2009

“Their impressive debut EP Ragdoll swoons, howls and wrenches you by the ears just like fine rock and roll should. Standout track Leaving in the Sunrise salvages up enough bravado to give The Vasco Era’s Sid O’ Neil a fair run for his money” - whothehell.net -

Speaking of which, it’s virtually impossible not to watch the The Novocaines. These fellas have enough on-stage energy to power a city block. The band appear to be much younger than they sound and the frontman has channelled a formative Jim Morrison with terrifying gusto. They also seem like they were born on stage, comfortable and loving it. When the drummer disappeared for a minute and no one was sure what for, or where he was, it provoked only slight amusement from the rest of the group; and he returned without skipping a beat, so to speak. However, the guitarist really must crack a mention as he plays with intensity and physicality bordering on spontaneous combustion, for an entire set-length.

So if you didn’t have a beer in your hand before the band started, you’d probably have a few by the end as they demand hip-swingin’ and a good time. By their final song the venue had warmed up, filled up and the punters were getting riled up, the best way for a headlining act to come on and knock ’em down.

After flirting with depression in 2011, 2012 is already looking brighter… and more productive. Here's the first clip from the SINATRA Highway tour, with scenes from various performances throughout the Australian outback sewn together. Please share everywhere if you like it :)
