Influences
Novus Cantus has been influenced by ethnic, classical, folk and rock styles. Some of the musical groups that have been particularly influential are Jethro Tull, Metallica, Alice in Chains, Condor's Flight, and the the Hungarian group Muzsikas. We have also been impacted by Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music.
The most common opinion by those whom have heard our compositions is that our music sounds like "something from the medieval period."
Novus Cantus, Latin for “New Music,” was created from the musical collaboration of two brothers, Alexander and Christian Herasimtschuk from Poughkeepsie, New York. Consisting of voice, acoustic guitar and percussion, Novus Cantus performs original compositions influenced by ethnic, rock and early music. The duo has played throughout the Hudson Valley and is currently working on their debut album.
Alexander and Christian are currently scheduling performances in Woodstock, New Paltz, Albany, Rochester and New York City. Please visit the website for any updates regarding performances and recordings.
