Nowhere Kids's Blurbs |
About me:
Nowhere Kids is a short fictional speculation on Gotham Award nominee and Sundance Channel documentary selection Off the Grid: Life on the Mesa.
SYNOPSIS
Eléonore Hendricks (A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, The Pleasure of Being Robbed) is Georgia, a teen runaway whose search for her biological mother is derailed when she meets a group of crust-punk street kids on their way to the Mesa, a mysterious place where “rules don’t exist.” After they commit a series of crimes, she becomes an unwitting accomplice and ultimately must choose between her fragile family bonds and an escape to the unknown.

Who I'd like to meet:

|
|
Many of the cast members are made up of real kids who have been train hopping around the country and living on the streets. Finding the right kids took months, but in the end, it provided a deeper understanding of the material and created a higher level of authenticity.
Eléonore Hendricks …Georgia
Evan Louison …Zero
Naomi Madsen …Ruby
Rich Williamson …Lost
Donnie Mastro …X
Cheryl Johnston …Bonnie
Robert Haley …Security Guard
Gregory Kostal …Clerk
Gregory Higgins …Guy in Truck
Judith Boxley …Factory Worker
Sturgis ...Austen (dog)
You can read stories from the cast on our myspace blog. Here's an excerpt:
"When I first heard about the audition, it was from the street kids in tompkins park. They were talking about how these strange filmmakers were invading their space to talk about film and other things far outside the realm of needle exchange pamphlets and spare change. I have lived on my own and in foster group homes since I was fourteen, hitch-hiking, hopping trains, squatting in abandoned buildings, spare changing, dumpster diving and living in the outskirts of society traveling the country... The ruthless survivalist in Ruby's character came from years of experience on my own." -Naomi Madsen

"...This might turn out to be my discovery of this year’s SFF. Perhaps it’s a timing thing, but I’m shocked that the world’s first chance to see this standout featurette-of-a-short is in Sarasota, Florida, and not in a more high profile environment....Eleonore Hendricks blew me away. While she proved to be a magnetizing screen presence in The Pleasure of Being Robbed, here there can be no doubt about it: she is an actress. The multi-talented Evan Louison (writer/director/actor of A Light in the Window Lost) also delivers an intense performance. I guess the best way to sum it up is to say that Nowhere Kids doesn’t feel like a bunch of New York City-ites playing dress up. It feels very real."
